ABSTRACT: The challenges of 21st century healthcare services are not only to combat infectious diseases but also to recognise many causes of ill-health that are related to lifestyle, especially in developing countries. Hypertension affects approximately one billion individuals worldwide. The prevalence of hypertension in developing countries is 10%–20% while in rural areas of India, it ranges from 13%–21%.2 Despite its sizeable impact on morbidity and mortality, hypertension is often called “the silent killer”.
