Article: Preoperative diagnosis of ileal lipoma by endoscopic ultrasonography probe.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The occurrence of tumor in the small intestine is relatively rare. It has been demonstrated that lipoma of the ileum is a cause of intussusception. We report a 59-year-old man admitted to our hospital for lower abdominal pain. Diagnosis of intussusception was made by abdominal x-ray and ultrasonography. Enema contrast studies revealed ileocolic intussusception. Colonoscopy revealed a tumor with an submucosal tumor (SMT)-like head and coil-spring appearance in the ascending colon. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) revealed a hyperechoic submucosal lesion with features compatible with lipoma. Subsequently, this was confirmed histopathologically after resection. To our knowledge, this is the first report of preoperative diagnosis of ileal lipoma by EUS.Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology 11/2000; 31(3):245-7. · 3.16 Impact Factor -

Article: Obturator hernia: the usefulness of computed tomography in diagnosis.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Delay in diagnosis and treatment of the rare obturator hernia often leads to high resection and mortality rates. Reviews of the clinical courses and the reliability of computed tomography (CT) in early diagnosis are reported. Seventeen patients with obturator hernias were treated between April 1983 and December 1994. Except for one man, all were emaciated women who had undergone an average of 4.7 live deliveries. The mean age was 79.9 years. All patients had small bowel obstruction symptoms. Howship-Romberg sign was present in 11 patients. Twelve cases were correctly diagnosed before operation. After the introduction of CT in the diagnosis of suspected hernia cases, preoperative diagnosis was made on 9 of the 10 patients (90%) and CT was performed on 8 patients with 100% accuracy. Definite and early diagnosis is possible with the awareness of the clinical courses of this hernia and by performing CT on suspected cases.Surgery 03/1996; 119(2):137-40. · 3.10 Impact Factor -
Article: Portal vein reconstruction using an internal jugular vein as a graft: report of a case.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: We report the case of a 41-year-old man with pancreatic carcinoma invading the portal vein who was successfully treated by portal vein resection combined with pancreatoduodenectomy and reconstruction using an autointernal jugular vein. The internal jugular vein is an ideal graft for portal vein replacement because it has sufficient length, a well-matched diameter, and there is no venous insufficiency after unilateral resection. Nevertheless, this is the first report of portal vein reconstruction using the internal jugular vein as a graft.Surgery Today 02/1995; 25(4):378-80. · 1.22 Impact Factor -

Article: [A case of multiple colorectal cancers repeatedly resected 5 times].
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: A case of successive metachronous colorectal cancers repeatedly resected 5 times during an 8-year period is reported. The 1st cancer was found in the sigmoid colon when the patient (male) was 32 years old. The 2nd was a mucosal carcinoma of the rectum which was locally excised. The 3rd was found in the ascending colon, and there was detected yet another small cancer in the adenoma in the resected specimen. The 4th and 5th cancers were found in the transverse colon and rectum, respectively. This case is considered to be highly associated with genetic factors. Long-term and careful surveillance is mandatory for early detection of recurrent or additional tumors.Gan no rinsho. Japan journal of cancer clinics 07/1987; 33(7):868-74.
