    ABSTRACT: This paper proposes a new architectural approach of a home-appliances system that embeds three different main components: smart home entertainment, remote monitoring and assistive systems. A review of State of the Art of the actual implementations in the field of e-Heath systems is presented. A rational approach for system developing is detailed, starting from a prototype point of view to the new integrated smart home entertainment system. This system shows another perspective about remote and assistive monitoring and its features. A stream-based home entertainment system will provide a friendly and immersive environment facilitating the connection between the technical system and the house residents. Sensors forming a Body Area Network (BAN) will be also integrated with the new smart home entertainment devices.

    ABSTRACT: At the end of the last century the growth of interest in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) led to a large number of researches both in industry and research institutes. The WSN is no longer just an alternative being used today even where wire communications are possible. Following, for design efficient WSNs, a great deal of effort is directed to the research of energy models in order to generate accurate sensory characteristics of a wireless network. Requirements and long service life with minimum energy represent the key to implementing new solutions. Criterions for repeating the packets and optimizations of the functional blocks of a WSN node need also to be taken into account. Our work is related to the criterions for choosing the adequate components, before implementation, modeling and simulation of blocks in WSN nodes, from the energy consumption perspective. We also present an application of this model which is a developed wireless pulse-oximeter.

    ABSTRACT: The paper presents a new system used for starting the diesel engine of the LDH1250HP locomotive, for improving its performances, reliability and availability. The system developed uses rapid release storage devices, a power electronic unit and a computer linked with all the distributed system elements, by using Ethernet bus. Also, the paper describes an intelligent data acquisition system integrated with the starting system and developed to monitor the electrical parameters of the LDH1250HP locomotive. The proposed monitoring system allows evaluating the electrical locomotive parameters and the overall system performances. The details of implementation and the experimental results are also presented. The technical implementation allows a significant reduction of exploitation cost and carbon footprint of the locomotive.

    ABSTRACT: The advantages of supercapacitors at the starting of internal combustion engines (ICE), as a complementary source to classical batteries, are nowadays certitudes: the significant extension of battery life span, the reduced volume and weight, meeting the environmental demands and lowering starting time and energy. The paper intends to develop a model of the electrical behavior of the assembly supercapacitor-starter driven by the ICE crankshaft, model allowing reasonable estimations of supercapacitors characteristics used for ICE starting. The development of the model was based on real signal analysis on a conventional battery-starter starting system.

    ABSTRACT: The paper presents a Radon monitoring system. The system is designed for real time multiple location monitoring. The paper presents in the first part a method and an instrument for measuring radon concentration in air. Simulink simulations and implementation of the measurement principle are presented. Instrument position is determined by GPS and transmitted over GPRS along with the measurements results. Data management is accomplished by a software component of the system. The paper presents as an application, an investigation on nanomaterials to be used for Radon mitigation.

    ABSTRACT: The population of Romania is an aged population with high risk of disease and a reduced birth rate. One possible solution to address these issues is the improvement and proliferation of surveillance and prevention systems, in order to manage or rapidly detect the health problems with the lowest costs. In this paper we present the e-health / e-homecare system we propose, that would facilitate and improve the efficiency of the primary medical care, a fundamental component of the medical system.

    ABSTRACT: The paper presents a system for remote control of distributed and networked drives and data acquisition devices. The system goal is to be integrated in monitoring systems for Intelligent Buildings. The authors developed and tested a wireless acquisition & distribution architecture (IEEE 802.11 "WiFi"-compliant) based on embedded webservers (with Ethernet-serial-Ethernet tunneling) at the drives' side and PDA/Communicators (Pocket PC Smartphones running MS Windows Mobile CE6) at the remote and mobile control side.

    ABSTRACT: Ensuring the appropriate functionality of all the interconnected electric and electronic appliances inside an intelligent building requires an environment where electromagnetic interferences are attenuated so as to eliminate any harmful effects. This paper proposes some straightforward investigation techniques regarding the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of construction materials. The authors present some simulation methods by developing an original model for shielding capability estimation along with experimental methods and determinations on materials with shielding capability.

    ABSTRACT: This paper describes a soft-switch-based mobile network simulator developed for the purpose of e-Learning. The main goal of this simulation-based e-Learning software is to show and illustrate the behavior of the specific mobile communications network elements.     ABSTRACT: in this work we present a security system collecting data from detectors for carbon monoxide, flammable gas, smoke, radon and from an access control system based on fingerprint recognition, and sending warnings through a GPRS link. The warnings are sent over the Internet is the concentration of toxic gases or smoke increases over a certain level or an unauthorized access is repeated several times. The transmitted data contains information about the type of danger situation and the location of the system determined by a GPS receiver.

    ABSTRACT: Hospital institutions' needs of high-availability data resources are ever growing, and accordingly there must be included reliable measures to control the access security to data bases. In this paper, we propose architecture, based on the SONA model that could tend to a hospital's data security needs. The architecture is structured in three logical components: "Client", "Server-Farm" and "Management"; thus making it very scalable. Every component needs to satisfy a set of guidelines in order to obtain maximum efficiency and different implementations can be done with similar results, this being a proof of its high capacity of integration in other networks.
