  • Article: Determination and variability of growing seasons in Côte d’Ivoire
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The analysis of agro-climatic data of Côte d’Ivoire ranging from 1951 to 2000 have permitted to highlight normal, early and delayed dates of onset and retreat of rainfall for the beginning and end of growing season. The analysis is based on SIVAKUMAR method and was performed with the INSTAT software. It takes into account several land and agricultural parameters. The specific parameters of Côte d’Ivoire were calibrated for a suitable running of the model over the country. The results were then integrated to a mapping process based on ordinary kriging to get a geographical coverage. A comparative study of growing season of the average 1971-2000 (Dry period) with the average 1951-1980 (Humid period) show a shortening of the growing season mainly in the Center-Western region were we record a shortening of 30 days.

  • Article: Zoning of rainfall in Côte d’Ivoire
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The zoning of rainfall is a key toll for rainfall’s characteristic knowledge. It has an essential importance in the field of environment, agriculture and water resources management. The synthesis of results obtained by Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and the Mean Monthly Rainfall Coefficient has permitted to identify eight (8) zones with some variants. A total of 171 rainfall gauging posts and station was used for this study. A long term analysis (1921-2000) made over a slippery period of 30 years shows stability in the monthly distribution of rainfall in spite of a decrease of rainfall in Côte d’Ivoire.
