ABSTRACT: Production planning (or product design) in the steel industry needs specific, sophisticated procedures in order to guarantee competitive plant performance. This paper describes an integrated tundish planning problem, considering the steelmaking-continuous casting-hot rolling and other downstream integrated technical constraints, and a multi-objective optimisation model is proposed with the objective to optimise the number of tundish, the additional cost of technical operations and the throughput balance to each flow. Also, instead of using traditional metaheuristic algorithm or artificial intelligence (AI)-based heuristic approaches, this paper develops two new approaches, the improved variable neighbourhood descent (IVND) search method and improved reduced variable neighbourhood search (IRVNS) method, by introducing the iterated local search into local search to the problem described above. The performance of IVND and IRVNS are analysed based on changing the number of local iteration and weights of objective function, these two algorithms are also compared with tabu search(TS) and heuristic method based on numeral analysis of the actual data, and the results show that the model and algorithm are feasible and efficient.

ABSTRACT: Efficient and effective production control systems are very important for manufacturing plants. CONWIP, one of these production
control systems, has a high potential of becoming the best one available because it suits a variety of production environments
and is easy to implement. In the following paper, we compare the single-loop and multi-loop CONWIP production control systems
for an actual lamp assembly production line producing different kinds of products with discrete distribution processing time
and demand. A model is formulated with respect to total cost and service level. A novel rule-based genetic algorithm (GA)
approach is proposed for the multi-loop CONWIP system to find the optimum parameter setting. The results have shown that the
single-loop CONWIP production control system is more efficient than the multi-loop system. It can greatly decrease the total
cost and the WIP (Work-In-Process) with zero shortage probability.

ABSTRACT: In this paper, we propose a new survivable algorithm, called Enhanced Shared-Path Protection (ESPP), to tolerate multi-link
failures in WDM optical networks. In ESPP, we consider the load balancing method to reduce the blocking probability for computing
the primary paths, and we also use the idea of backup resources sharing to save backup resources for computing the backup
paths. In order to tolerate multi-link failures, we perform the recovery escalation mechanism to establish new routes for
carrying the traffic affected by the failures. Simulation results show that, compared with the conventional algorithm, ESPP
has better resource utilization ratio, lower blocking probability, and higher protection ability.

ABSTRACT: Production inventory control is one of the most important elements of manufacturing logistics. CONstant Work In Process (CONWIP),
which is a hybrid of push and pull type systems, offers an effective approach to supply chain (SC) management. The study of
CONWIP is very often conducted with detailed modeling and mathematical analysis, and is not appropriate for supporting decisions
from a managerial or macro perspective. In this paper, the authors present an alternative analysis of CONWIP at an aggregate
level, which is appropriate to the decision-making about the SC. The model is simulated using system dynamics (SD). The implementation
of this model is described using an example from the lamp manufacturing industry in mainland China. The method and its results
are illustrated with a lamp manufacturing SC, which indicates that SD can be used to analyze and understand the CONWIP approach
to achieve higher productivity and better performance. Moreover, SD is more suitable for simulation analyses of the SC system.

ABSTRACT: Currently, the required bandwidth of IP-level users tends to be diversity, i.e., coarse-granularity demands and small-granularity demands. Employing traffic grooming or waveband switching (WS) only may results in several traffic-diversity problems in wavelength routed networks (WRNs) or WaveBand Switching (WBS) networks. In order to solve the traffic-diversity problems in IP over WDM networks, an identified multi-granularity optical cross-connect (MG-OXC) with supporting traffic partition is devised in this paper. In this node structure, one traffic partition module is used to check the type of demand. Followed by our proposed traffic partition based grooming policy (TPGP), if the currently-arriving IP-level user is small-granularity demand, it will be processed by traffic grooming, otherwise processed by waveband switching. Then, we propose a new multi-granularity grooming algorithm based on integrated grooming auxiliary graph (MG-IGAG). The IGAG includes a wavelength integrated auxiliary graph (WIAG) and a waveband integrated auxiliary graph (BIAG) to groom small-granularity and coarse-granularity demands, respectively. Simulation results show that compared to previous WS algorithms and multi-granularity grooming algorithms followed by integrated grooming policy (IGP), MG-IGAG not only performs traffic grooming and waveband switching together, but also solves the traffic-diversity problems effectively, especially for port savings.

ABSTRACT: A recently-developed meta-heuristic optimization method, called the Harmony Search (HS) has gained more and more attentions
for the ability to solve large-scale, difficult combinational optimization problems. And, recently, fourth-party logistics
(4PL) also has been receiving more and more attentions from the manufacturing and retail industries. In this chapter, we set
up the mathematical model of fourth-party logistics routing optimization with time windows (4PLRPTW) based on a multi-graph,
firstly, then reviews the application of HS in areas of 4PLRPTW. Three specific cases are considered: seven nodes, fifteen
nodes, and thirty nodes problems. According to the character of 4PLRPTW, we also design the repair strategy. The performance
of the HS is compared with the designed enumeration algorithm in this chapter. The results of the numerical experiments show
that the HS is effective in terms of solution quality and computational time.

ABSTRACT: In this paper, we address on-demand routing protocols by focusing on Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol and Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol in Wireless Mesh Network (WMN). We use the OPNET to establish the simulation models of DSR and AODV protocols in WMN. Simulation and results show that, DSR protocol based on dynamic source routing is not suitable for wireless transmission, while AODV protocol based on purpose-driven routing is suitable for wireless transmission with rapid change of network topology.

ABSTRACT: In IP over WDM networks, lightpath bypass is an effective method of decreasing the power consumed by IP routers since this technology can multiplex many requests into one high-capacity lightpath and switch these requests as a single entity in all-optical layer. However, the power consumed by individual lightpaths should also be considered in IP over WDM networks. Therefore, the power efficiency has become an important issue. In this paper, we propose two heuristic algorithms named Power-aware Grooming with Single-hop based on Wavelength Integrated Auxiliary Graph (PGSWIAG) and Power-aware Grooming with Multi-hop based on Wavelength Integrated Auxiliary Graph (PGMWIAG). Simulation results show that, compared with PGSWIAG, PGMWIAG can obtain better performance of power efficiency.

ABSTRACT: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access (OFDMA) is a promising candidate access scheme for future wireless communication systems. One of the most important research challenges in OFDMA system is the design of a packet scheduler to support multimedia services. In this paper, we propose a novel QoS-oriented dynamic threshold control (DTC) scheduling algorithm for mixed services (i.e., real-time and non-real-time services). For the purpose of satisfying the different QoS requirements of both types of services, we design a unique scheduling strategy for each type of service. A dynamic threshold is adopted to achieve more efficient allocation of subcarriers. Furthermore, in order to maximize the spectrum efficiency, the subcarrier reallocation scheme is proposed to reallocate the surplus subcarriers among users. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed DTC algorithm is efficient in terms of QoS guarantee and spectrum efficiency.

ABSTRACT: This paper proposes a new algorithm called Integrated Multicast Waveband Routing and Grooming (IMWRG) in optical networks. We first present the single-hop, multi-hop and hybrid multicast waveband grooming policies, and then develop the multicast layered auxiliary graph including one virtual topology layer and multiple waveband-plane layers to support the effective multicast waveband routing and grooming. Simulation results show that, compared with other algorithm, IMWRG can obtain better performances.

ABSTRACT: In this paper, we propose a new algorithm, Waveband Routing with Layered Auxiliary Graph (WRLAG), to perform the inter-domain and intra-domain routing in multi-domain optical networks. We present the Layered Auxiliary Graph (LAG) that includes one virtual topology layer and multiple waveband-plane layers to compute a single-hop, or multi-hop or hybrid waveband route for each request based on the sub-path waveband grouping scheme. Simulation results show that, WRLAG can save more switching ports and obtain lower blocking probability.

ABSTRACT: This paper proposes two protection algorithms, Segment-Based Protection (SBP) and Path-Based Protection (PBP), in fault-tolerant multi-domain optical networks to support waveband grouping with the layered auxiliary graph concept. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first study to achieve the fault-tolerance and waveband switching in multi-domain optical networks. Simulation results show that PBP has better performances than SBP.

ABSTRACT: The virtual enterprises face more risk than traditional enterprises as they are dynamic, temporary and with multi-partners. In order to control the risk to the acceptable level, the multi strategies multi choices (MSMC) risk programming model is proposed in this paper considering the fuzzy characteristics and project organization mode of virtual enterprises. In order to deal with the multi control strategies for each risk, the multi-layer strategies process mechanism and two properties are presented. To solve this model, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is designed, which combines with the HFMFs (hyper-trapezoidal fuzzy membership functions) embedded fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE). Simulation shows that this method is both effective and efficient in achieving satisfied solutions for risk programming of virtual enterprises.
