Article: Higher Derivative Couplings and Duality in N=2, D=4 String Theories
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: by comparing vector couplings of dual models in an appropriate corner of the moduli space. The vector couplings are encoded in a series of functions F (g) , g 0 that depend on the moduli of vector multiplets. The coupling functions are known to encode certain geometric aspects of string compactification. For heterotic N = 2 compactifications, these functions are related to modular forms of the underlying T --duality symmetry group. For type II strings the functions count the numbers of genus--g world--sheet instantons Talk presented by T.M. at the 30-th International Symposium Ahrenshoop on the Theory of Elementary Particles, Buckow, August 27 - 31, 1996. (holomorphic curves) mapped onto the Calabi-- Yau space on which the type II theory is compactified. String duality then provides a profound relation, called the second quantized mirror map [14]11/1997; -

Article: Cosmic Holography
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: A new version of holographic principle for (spherically symmetric) cosmology is proposed, which dictates that particle entropy within `cosmological apparent horizon' should not exceed gravitational entropy associated with the horizon. It is shown that, in standard big-bang cosmology, Universes of all spatial curvature are consistent with the new holography. It is also shown that string inflationary cosmology is also compatible with the new holography, provided smooth `graceful exit' mechanism is dynamically built in. -
