Article: Investigation of the diffractive reaction p + N → [∑+K0] + N at the proton energy of Ep=70 GeV and observation of the decay process X(2000) → ∑+K0
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The diffractive reaction p + N → [∑+ K 0] + N induced by 70-GeV protons is investigated at the SPHINX facility. The measured mass spectrum of the ∑+ K 0 system originating from this reaction shows a resonance structure with a mass of M=1995±18 MeV and a width of Γ=90±32 MeV. The cross section for the formation of this structure is found to be σ=182±38 nb per target nucleon. These data comply well with the results that we obtained previously in studying the reaction p + N → [∑0 K +] + N, where we observed the formation of the X(2000) → ∑0 K + state, a candidate for an exotic baryon with hidden strangeness. The measured ratio R of the two branching fractions, R = Br[X(2000) → ∑+ K 0]/Br[X(2000) → ∑0 K +] = 1.91 ± 0.38, is consistent with the value of R=2 expected for an isospin-1/2 baryon.Physics of Atomic Nuclei 04/2012; 63(8):1391-1394. · 0.57 Impact Factor -
Article: Search for exotic baryons with hidden strangeness in proton diffractive production at the energy of 70 GeV
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The first preliminary results from the upgraded SPHINX spectrometer, working in the proton beam with the energy of 70 GeV of the IHEP accelerator, are presented. The data for the reaction p + N ⊒ [Σ0 K +] + N based on new statistics are in good agreement with our previous data and strongly support the existence of the X (2000) state (with an increase in statistics for this state by a factor of ∼5). We also observed radiative decay of Λ(1520) → Λγ. The significant increase in statistics for many diffractive-production reactions will allow us to study them in great detail.Physics of Atomic Nuclei 04/2012; 65(11):2070-2076. · 0.57 Impact Factor -
Article: Λ(1520) → Λγ radiative-decay width
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The radiative decay Λ(1520) → Λγ was recorded in the exclusive reaction p + N → Λ(1520)K + + N at the SPHINX facility. The branching ratio for this decay and the corresponding partial width were found to be, respectively, Br[Λ(1520) → Λγ] = (1.02 ± 0.21) × 10−2 and Γ[Λ(1520) → Λγ] = 159 ± 35 keV (the quoted errors are purely statistical, the systematic errors being within 15%).Physics of Atomic Nuclei 02/2005; 68(3):378-384. · 0.57 Impact Factor -
Article: Measurement of the radiative decay width \Gamma[\Lambda(1520) --> \Lambda \gamma] with the SPHINX spectrometer
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The radiative decay \Lambda(1520) --> \Lambda \gamma was measured directly in the study of exclusive diffractive-like reaction p + N --> \Lambda(1520) K^+ + N, \Lambda(1520) --> \Lambda \gamma with the SPHINX spectrometer. The values of the branching and partial width of this radiative decay were obtained: BR[\Lambda(1520) --> \Lambda \gamma] = (1.02+/-0.21(stat)+/-0.15(syst))x10^{-2} and \Gamma[\Lambda(1520) --> \Lambda \gamma] = 159+/-33(stat)+/-26(syst) keV.07/2004; -
Article: New data on the p + N → [Σ0K+] + N reaction at E p= 70 GeV and the search for exotic baryons
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: New data for the diffractive reaction p+N→ [Σ0 K +] +N at E p= 70 GeV were obtained with partially upgraded SPHINX setup. The data are in a good agreement with the results of our previous study of this reaction. In the mass spectrum M(Σ0 K +) a structure at the threshold region with a mass ∼1810 MeV and a distinct X(2000) peak with M= 1989 ± 6 MeV and γ= 91 ± 20 MeV are observed. Unusual features of the massive X(2000) state (narrow decay width, anomalously large branching ratio for the decay channel with strange particle emission) make it a serious candidate for cryptoexotic pentaquark baryon with hidden strangeness |qqqs¯s>. We also present new results on the narrow threshold structure X(1810) with M= 1807 ± 7 MeV and γ= 62 ± 19 MeV which is produced in the region of very small P 2 T < 0.01 GeV2. The possibility of the Coulomb production mechanism for X(1810) is discussed.European Physical Journal A 07/1999; 5(4):409-416. · 2.19 Impact Factor -
Article: Study of the OZI selection rule in hadronic processes
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: In the experiments with LEPTON-F and SPHINX spectrometers the pion-induced charged exchange reactions ?m + p M J + n and ?m + p M P + n at P?m = 32.5 GeV, as well as proton-induced diffractive reactions p + N M [p J] + N and p + N M [p P] + N at Ep = 70 GeV were studied. The comparison of the cross-sections for J and P-production in these reactions is used for testing the OZI selection rule in hadronic processes. It has been demonstrated that in pion reactions the ratio of the yields of J and P-mesons R(J/P) = (3 - 1) 10х is in a good agreement with naive quark model prediction based on the mixing in vector meson nonet and on the OZI rule (R(J/P)OZI = tg2( /V 4 10х). At the same time in proton reactions the effective ratio of J and P yields is ~ (4 1 7) 10ф, i.e. a strong violation of the OZI rule is observed in proton-nucleon interactions. This violation can be in favor of possible existence of some exotic s¥s component in the quark structure of protons.Zeitschrift für Physik A Hadrons and Nuclei 11/1997; 359(4):435-444. -
Article: Study of quasiexclusive neutral meson production in pN interactions at Ep = 70 GeV in the deep fragmentation region
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Quasiexclusive neutral meson production in pN-interactions is studied in experiments with the SPHINX facility operating in a proton beam from the IHEP accelerator (Ep = 70 GeV). The cross sections and the parameters of the differential distributions for ?o, P, - and Ko production in the deep fragmentation region (xF > 0.79 1 0.86) are presented. The results show that such proton quasiexclusive reactions with baryon exchange may be promising in searches for exotic mesons.Zeitschrift für Physik A Hadrons and Nuclei 10/1997; 359(3):327-335. -

Article: Study of coherent diffractive production reactions ofp+C→[Y0K+]+C type and observation of narrow structures in ∑ (1385)0K+ and ∑0K+ effective mass spectra
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: In the experiments at the SPHINX facility in 70 GeV proton beam of the IHEP accelerator the coherent diffractive production reactions on carbon nucleip+C [(1385)0 K ++C andp+C[0 K +]+C were investigated. The evidences for new baryon states were obtained in the study of hyperon-kaon effective mass spectra in these two reactions:X (2050) with massM=(20526) MeV and width =(35 –35 +22 ) MeV inM[(1385)0 K +] andX(2000) withM=19996 MeV and =9117 MeV inM[0 K +]. The unusual features of these massive states (small enough decay widths, anomalously large branching ratios for decays with strange particles emission) make them very serious candidates for cryptoexotic pentaquark baryons with hidden strangeness.Zeitschrift für Physik C 01/1995; 68(4):585-594. -

ABSTRACT: The radiative decay + – has been studied with the statistics of 2000 events. Different ways of describingm distribution are considered. It is shown that if the dominating contribution to this process is made by the decay channel , then the generally accepted ways of describing the peak do not agree with experimental data.Zeitschrift für Physik C 01/1991; 50(3):451-454. -

ABSTRACT: The mass spectrum for μ+μ−γ systems produced in π−p interactions at 25 and 33 GeV/c has been studied. To detect muon pairs and photons a wide-aperture magnetic spectrometer and a hodoscope γ-detector were used. In the mass spectrum a clear peak is seen corresponding to the decay η′ → μ+μ−γ not previously observed. The branching ratio for this decay, 8 × 10−5, is in agreement with the η′ form-factor model, based on vector dominance.Physics Letters B.
