    ABSTRACT: Water-soluble fluorescent CdTe quantum dots were synthesized using TGA (Thiolglycolic acid) as the stabilizer and characterized by fluorescence spectroscopy. This fluorescent material was applied to development fingerprints deposited on the sticky side of adhesives. The development conditions such as development time, temperature and pH value of QDs solution were investigated. The comparison experimental with traditional methods and development rate were also studied. The results show that this material exhibited strong visible fluorescence under excitation at 365 nm. CdTe QDs can detect fingerprints on different adhesive surfaces. In addition, the development rate of fingerprints on the adhesive side of cellulose tape was discussed and the effective development rate for 30-days-aged fingerprints can reach to 72%. Furthermore, the developed fingerprints have higher and stable fluorescence intensity, weaker background interference and better contrast between fingerprints and the substrate. CdTe QDs is a promising reagent for fingerprints development on adhesive surfaces.

    ABSTRACT: Utilization of CdSe nanoparticle suspension for latent fingermarks on a multitude of no-porous and semi-porous surfaces has been demonstrated in this paper. Whether it’s dark or light, the color of adhesives has no effect on the results of developing, because of the strong fluorescence excited by irradiation with UV LEDs. Enough contrast could be obtained for imaging. As an effective stabilizer for suspension which is commonly used in fingermark developing, Tween 20 with different concentration was also applied for better results. However, it didn’t work for nanometer-sized particles, which have already been stable in suspension. To broaden the scope of its application, different excitation systems were adopted. Well-contrast images could be obtained when 365 nm UV light, 440 nm blue light and daylight were applied. TiO2 SPR (Small Particle Reagent) and gentian violet were used to compare with CdSe nanoparticle suspension under daylight. The results indicated that it produced significantly less background development and better contrast.

The prepared solution was characterized by fluorescence spectroscopy and applied for detection of latent fingermarks on adhesives. The effects of stabilizer, precursor, pH value, the concentration of cadmium ion and shell structure on fluorescence were also discussed. The results indicated that the intensity of fluorescence was remarkably increased and the selectivity was well improved when using CdSe nanoparticles, it produced significantly less background development and better contrast after 15 min developing process.
