  • Article: Techno Economic Feasibility Analysis of a Stand-Alone PV System to Electrify a Rural Area Household in India
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: This paper presents a study on a stand-alone photovoltaic (PV) system to provide the required electricity for a single residential household in India. The complete design of the suggested system is carried out, such that the site radiation data and the electrical load data of a typical household in the considered site are taken into account during the design steps. Also, the life cycle cost (LCC) analysis is conducted to assess the economic viability of the system. The results of the study encouraged the use of the PV systems to electrify the rural sites of India.

  • Article: Loss Reduction in Distribution System Using Fuzzy Techniques
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Abstract- In this paper, a novel approach usingapproximate reasoning is used to determine suitablecandidate nodes in a distribution system for capacitorplacement. Voltages and power loss reduction indices ofdistribution system nodes are modelled by furzymembership functions. A fuzzy expert system (FES)containing a set of heuristic rules is then used todetermine the capacitor placement suitability of eachnode in the distribution system. Capacitors are placed onthe nodes with the highest suitability. a new designmethodology for determining the size, location, type andnumber of capacitors to be placed on a radial distributionsystem is presented. The objective is to minimize the peakpower losses and the energy losses in the distributionsystem considering the capacitor cost. Test results havebeen presented along with the discussion of the algorithm.
