  • Article: The mechanism of synchronization of chemical coupled neurons.
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The synchronous effects of a pair of Morris-Lecar neurons, which was connected by excitable and inhibitory coupling, is studied in this paper. The theory of phase response is applied to examine how synchronization patterns are influenced by coupling strength. Based on the numerical simulation, we derive the region of synchrony and asynchrony as a function of coupling strength and the external stimulation. These analysis may provide us better insight into neuronal encoding and information transmission.

  • Article: Robust complete synchronization of electrical coupling neurons under uncertain heterogeneous disturbances using adaptive internal model.
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: An adaptive internal model control strategy is introduced into the robust complete synchronization of two gap-junction coupled FizHugh-Nagumo (FHN) neurons under uncertain heterogeneous disturbances which satisfies some general immersion condition. The synchronization problem can be converted into a robust stabilization problem of an augmented system consisting of the original given plants and an internal model. An adaptive law is employed against uncertain disturbances to make the estimate of internal model to converge to the ideal one. Following a proper state-feedback stabilizer is designed to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the resulting closed-loop system achieved for some appointed initial condition in the state space and for all possible values of the uncertain parameter vector. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.

  • Article: Bifurcations in Morris-Lecar model exposed to DC electric field.
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: As an important neuron model, the Morris-Lecar (ML) equations can exhibit classes I and II excitabilities with appropriate system parameters. In this paper, the effects of external DC electric field on the neuro-computational properties of ML model are investigated using bifurcation analysis. We obtain the bifurcation diagram in two dimensional parameter space of externally applied DC current and trans-membrane potential induced by external DC electric field. The bifurcation sets partition the two dimensional parameter space about the qualitatively different behaviors of the ML model. Thus the neuron's information encodes the stimulus information, and vice versa, which is significant in neural control. Furthermore, we identify the electric field as a key parameter to control the transitions among four different excitability and spiking properties.

  • Article: Frequency dependence in acupuncture manipulations.
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The internal frequencies of chain network of FHN neurons include two different frequencies, namely, the intrinsic and Canard frequency. When the frequency of external stimuli approaches to the values of these two frequencies, signal processing in the chain will be enhanced. In traditional medical of Chinese acupuncture, signals evoked by different manipulations follow certain tracts to reach different target tissues. So it is reasonable to establish a chain network of FHN neurons to mimic the tract for frequency study.

    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Wavelet energy entropy derived from wavelet multi-revolution decomposition, reconstruction and Shannon entropy can signify the complexity of unsteady EEG signals in both time domain and frequency domain. Firstly, the paper gives an introduction of the methods about wavelet energy entropy. Then the EEG signals when acupuncture is analyzed and some conclusions are addressed by using wavelet energy entropy, relative wavelet energy entropy and the time evolution of them.

  • Article: Inhibitory chemical coupling of electronic Morris-Lecar neuron model and its bifurcation analysis.
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: In this paper, we got the implementation of the electronic neuron based on the Morris-Lecar model, and use the circuit to analysis the bifurcation of the Morris-Lecor model. Based on the results of the bifurcation analysis, we get bursting neurons by introducing a slow driving current. Furthermore, based on the implementation of a single electronic neuron, the electronic neurons are coupled through inhibiting chemical synapses which is one of the most important connections. Finally, we analyze behavior of the network of the electronic neurons coupled through the inhibiting chemical synapses.

  • Article: Global synchronization of N neurons in external electrical stimulation via active control.
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: In this paper, active control law is derived and applied to control and synchronize N(N >or= 3) unidirectional coupled Fitzhugh-Nagumo neurons in external electrical stimulation. Firstly, the dynamical behavior of the nonlinear Fitzhugh-Nagumo model responding to various external electrical stimulations is studied. Then, using the results of the analysis, the active control strategy is designed for global synchronization of the N(N >or= 3) unidirectional coupled neurons and stabilizing the chaotic trajectory of the slave system to desired periodic orbit of the master system. Numerical simulations demonstrate the validity and feasibility of the proposed method.

  • Conference Proceeding: Bifurcation Analysis of the Hodgkin-Huxley Model Exposed to External DC Electric Field
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Based on the modified Hodgkin-Huxley (HH) model exposed to extremely low frequency (ELF) electric field, we study Hopf and saddle-node bifurcations of the modified HH model in two dimensional parameter space of externally applied DC current and trans-membrane voltage induced by external DC electric field. The bifurcation sets are calculated by employing the generalized algebra criterion in high dimensional system. The obtained bifurcation sets partition the two dimensional parameter space in terms of the qualitatively different behaviors of the HH model. Thus the neuron's information encodes the stimulus information, and vice versa, which is significant in neuron control. The study is of some biological significance and suggest that the aberration of dynamics in bio-systems may account for diseases caused by electric exposure.
