Article: CD99 and HLA-II immunostaining in breast cancer tissue and their correlation with lymph node metastasis.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: In an attempt to better unfold the antitumor immune response and invasion strategies perused by tumor cells, markers such as CD99 and HLA-II have been stained in breast tumors, some of them turned out to be important for prognosis and its outcome. CD99 is involved in the intracellular transport of HLA-II proteins. The expression of HLA-II and CD99 molecules has been demonstrated in a broader range of neoplastic tissues, including some epithelial tumors. In the present work, we stained CD99 and HLA-II in breast malignant and non-malignant tissues sections obtained from biopsies resected surgically from 80 Tunisian women. Data implied that CD99 marks malignant tissue significantly as compared to non-malignant breast tissue. HLA-II staining allowed determining the correlation between breast cancer and HLA-II with cytoplasmic localization. CD99 and HLA-II immunostaining was also examined in correlation with two of the most important breast cancer prognostication in routine clinical practice, the lymph node stage and the histological assessment. Results let suggest that CD99 ^+ HLA-II ^- is a marker of worst prognostic since this phenotype is strongly linked to lymph node metastasis in breast cancer.Disease markers 03/2013; · 1.64 Impact Factor -
Article: Atypical presentations of internal mammary chain involvement in breast cancer.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Bachground: Breast cancer is the first cancer in women. Lymphatic involvement in breast cancer is common, especially in our patients because of the frequency of locally advanced forms. This contrast with a weak rate of diagnosed internal mammary chain invasion. Methods: We present observations of patients presenting atypical forms of internal mammary chain involvement. Aim: To clarify the atypical presentations of internal mammary chain involvement in breast cancer. Results: The invasion of internal mammary chain is often underestimated. Indeed, this site of lymphatic spread is not accessible to the clinical exam and its radiological exploration is not systematic. Otherwise, different clinical, pathological and radiological presentations have to attract our attention to a potential internal mammary chain invasion. Conclusion: Our misrecognition of this site of spread and its different presentations can partly explain the lack of diagnosis.La Tunisie médicale 08/2012; 90(8):593-7. -
Article: Malignant solitary fibrous tumor in the extremity: Cytopathologic findings.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Malignant solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is an extremely rare neoplasm. There are only rare published accounts of the cytopathologic features of this tumor. We report a case of a 59-year-old woman presented with a 10-year history of a right thigh mass. A preoperative fine needle aspiration (FNA) was performed. Smears were hypercellular, with cohesive and crowded tissue fragments, haphazard cell arrangements and many single cells. The tumor cells were polymorphous, plump spindled or round with often indented or bare nuclei. A differential diagnosis of low grade sarcoma was favored. The diagnosis of malignant SFT is extremely difficult on FNA and must be included in the differential diagnosis of spindle cell neoplasms.Journal of Cytology 04/2012; 29(2):139-41. · 0.31 Impact Factor -

Article: HPV types and variants among cervical cancer tumors in three regions of Tunisia.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among Tunisian women, and the incidence rates vary by region. Three Tunisian registries report age-standardized rates of 6.3/10(5) in the central region, 5.4/10(5) in the north, and 2.7/10(5) in the south. High-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) types and their variants differ in carcinogenic potential and geographic distribution. The HPV type and variant distribution could be a factor in the differing rates between regions of Tunisia. Tumor tissue was collected from 142 Tunisian cervical cancer patients. Demographic and reproductive characteristics of the patients were abstracted from cancer registry and hospital records. HPV type and variant analyses were performed using PCR-based Luminex and dot-blot hybridization assays. Eighty-three percent of tumors were infected with at least one HPV type. European variants of HPV16/18 were the most prevalent in tumors from all three regions, with all HPV18 infections and 64% of HPV16 infections being of European lineage. A higher frequency of HPV16 was present in Northern Tunisia (80%) than in Central (68%) or Southern Tunisia (50%) (P=0.02). HPV18/45 was significantly more common in adenocarcinomas (50%) than in squamous cell carcinomas (11%) (P=0.004). Frequent infection with European HPV variants most likely reflects the history of European migration to Tunisia. In addition to the importance of understanding the variants of HPV in Tunisia, behavioral and cultural attitudes towards screening and age-specific infection rates should be investigated to aid the development of future vaccination and HPV screening programs and policies.Journal of Medical Virology 04/2011; 83(4):651-7. · 2.82 Impact Factor -
Article: [Granulocytic sarcoma of the maxillary sinus: a pediatric case report].
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Granulocytic sarcoma is a rare malignant extramedullary neoplasm of myeloid precursor cells, occuring before or after onset of leukaemia. Involvement of the head and neck region is rare, generally concerning the orbit. To illustrate imaging findings of granulocytic sarcoma in an unusual location; maxillary sinus. We report a case of maxillary sinus granulocytic sarcoma in a 13-month old boy revealed by facial nerve palsy, ptosis and jugal swelling, without any evidence of haematological disorders. The patient underwent computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging exam which demonstrated a non specific maxillary sinus mass with destruction of the orbit floor and the alveolar bone. Diagnosis was obtained after bone biopsy allowing histological and immunohistochemical studies. Granulocytic sarcoma is a serious condition because of the associated hematologic disorders. In a sinus or orbit location, imaging features are non specific. Unless hematologic history is present, diagnosis is difficult and an immuno histo chemical study is required.La Tunisie médicale 03/2011; 89(3):305-8. -
Article: Imaging of benign lipomatous tumours of the limbs in children.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Lipomatous tumours of the limbs in children are rare, and lipoblastoma is the most common soft tissue tumour. Most of them have typical imaging features, but their clinical presentation and their management may vary, depending on the exact histological subtype. The aim of our study is to illustrate the main clinical, radiological and histological features of the different benign lipomatous tumours in children. Review of the literature. It is about a descriptive study of paediatric cases of benign lipomatous tumours of limb in children. The imaging findings are helpful and can provide essential components for the diagnosis.La Tunisie médicale 06/2010; 88(6):378-82. -

Article: Are HLA DQB1 alleles correlated with breast cancer histopronostic parameters in Tunisia?
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Tumor cells express surface structures different from normal cells. These structures may be recognized by the immune system, which ensure anti-tumoral surveillance. Antigenic presentation requires HLA molecules role. Since, these molecules are encoded by a high polymorphic system, immune response can be modulated according to HLA genotype. So, HLA polymorphism could be correlated with tumor escape from anti-tumor immunosurveillance. We have aimed to search for possible associations between HLA DQB1 alleles and the histoprognostical parameters in breast cancer in the Tunisian population. DQB1 alleles were determined by PCR-SSO molecular typing in 100 healthy matched and unrelated Tunisian female and 87 Tunisian women with breast cancer. Allelic distribution between the two studied groups showed no significant associations between this locus and the occurrence, the EE grade and the lymph node invasion of breast cancer in the Tunisian population. This result may be explained by the fact that cancer is a multifactoral disease due to several interacting factors that might change from one population to another.La Tunisie médicale 06/2009; 87(6):372-4. -
Article: [Internal mammary lymph node invasion in breast cancer: myth or reality?].
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The internal mammary nodes are often underestimated as breast cancer lymphatic pathway spread. It is yet the first site of lymphatic invasion in central or internal tumors and the second site in external tumors. The intra-thoracic situation of internal mammary nodes explains partly, the difficulty of its exploration. To evaluate the risk of internal mammary node invasion, some predictive factors are established (tumor size, internal or central tumor location, axillary node invasion and young age). Prognostic and therapeutic impact of invasion justifies its systematic research. Without exploring internal mammary nodes status, TNM classification remains, incomplete. CT scanner, magnetic resonnance imaging, positron emission tomography scanner and sentinel node exploration technique are helpful to explore this region and to adapt its irradiation.La Tunisie médicale 05/2009; 87(5):319-22. -
Article: Cotyledonoid dissecting leiomyoma of the uterus associated with endosalpingiosis.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Cotyledonoid dissecting leiomyoma (CDL) may create a diagnostic challenge. A 47-year-old woman underwent laparotomy for a large pelvic mass associated to vaginal bleeding. During operation, a bulky deep red mass protruding from the uterus and projecting into the pelvic cavity was discovered. Allowing to sarcoma- like appearance, a total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy were performed with removal of the pelvic tumor extension. The diagnosis of cotyledonoid dissecting leiomyoma of the uterus associated with endosalpingiosis was performed. To the best of our knowledge, this association has never been encountered in the English literature.Archives of Gynecology 05/2009; 280(6):1063-5. · 0.91 Impact Factor -
