  What does a man consist of? - the query "as old as a world". Does he consist of soul and body being the separate independent entities, or is he a mixture of those elements constituting an inseparableWhat does a man consist of? - the query "as old as a world". Does he consist of soul and body being the separate independent entities, or is he a mixture of those elements constituting an inseparable whole? It is a question which scientists of various disciplines are still trying to answer. While belief that those two elements coexist separately was sufficient for dualists, the burden of constant search for the "liaison" between the spiritual and the corporeal lay on the monists. The intellectual change of modern and post-modern times inaugurated the change also in this respect. The anthropological controversy assumes different shapes now: man is seen monisticaly, as a whole, and new directions in seeing the world and cognition are being formed. Phenomenology as well as cultural anthropology has done a lot in this field. While studying human body it also studies a man as a whole (body - subject); human body changes as if inherently according to a biological order but it is also shaped by "history", i.e. events, society, learning, politics, culture. And in those contexts body is studied by anthropology - a new specialization emerges: anthropology of body.

  Folk medicine is neither a closed not autonomous system. It focuses knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and convictions of man as to the Universe, surrounding reality and also that of supernaturalFolk medicine is neither a closed not autonomous system. It focuses knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and convictions of man as to the Universe, surrounding reality and also that of supernatural character. Moreover, the folk medicine is governed and generated, to a large extent, by the myth paradigm. Medicine and the mythic and magical sphere constitute two complementary aspects, of the same entity. Each medical system that functions is distinct historical and cultural conditions, as well as diverse traditions, perceives and resolves, the problem related with a human being, disease and therapy differently. Consequently, no universal paradigm (standard) can be applied to various traditions, for there is no medicine to exist beyond history, culture, etc. Endeavoring to fathom and comprehend some "health problems", physicians should look at them in the broad sense and in a particular "context", the emphasis should not be pub only on medical fast proper. Unfortunately, it is often the case that finding solutions to such problems, i.e. attempting to search for the truth, is accompanied by many anomalies, or misunderstandings. Some impropriety, for instance, of stereotyping, simplifying, misinterpreting and displaying bias can be encountered.

• Light and darkness effect on adrenocortical secretion of rats exposed to stress.

  The investigations were carried out on sexually mature Wistar rats divided into three groups: control group, a group kept always in darkness, and a group exposed continually to light. In each group a subgroup was isolated which was subjected to formalin stress. In all animals aldosterone and corticosterone concentrations in adrenal venous blood were determined spectrophotometrically. Thin layer chromatography was used for separation of steroids. It was found that keeping the rats in darkness caused a fall in the concentrations of corticosterone and aldosterone, while stress caused in the rats kept in darkness a rise of the concentrations of both these hormones. Continuous exposure to light reduced the concentration of aldosterone to undetectable values and of corticosterone by 90% in relation to the control group. Decrease of hormones level was observed in the stressed and non-stressed subgroups.
