ABSTRACT: In this paper, the monitoring strategies for a series hybrid electric vehicle (SHEV) bus are suggested for the optimal operation of powertrain and detection of abnormal conditions during the initial development of hybrid technologies. The monitoring system receives the messages from four control modules in the SHEV bus through a CAN, and then displays the data in the messages on a touch panel. In addition, all gauges and the on/off switching state of a set of telltale lamps are indicated. The monitoring system is implemented by both the 32-bit DSP and touch panel, and it is installed and tested on the real SHEV bus.

ABSTRACT: Linear compressors with a free piston driven by a linear motor have attracted wide attention in cooling apparatuses such as refrigerators due to their high efficiency. The method of using triacs as a linear motor drive is not satisfactory for improving the efficiency of linear compressors. In this paper, the performance of linear compressors using a pulsewidth modulation inverter is investigated, with emphasis on the efficiency and power factor along with variations of both mechanical and electrical resonant frequencies. The strategy for improving the efficiency of the linear compressor is suggested by controlling the average value of the product of the piston stroke and motor current to 0. The performance of both the stroke and efficiency controls of the linear compressor is verified through experiments under various gas pressure conditions.

ABSTRACT: The container stack profile scanning system is very important for yard crane automation, which is to monitor the number of containers stacked at each slot in the yard. In this paper, the novel method of scanning the container stack profile accurately and rapidly with one laser sensor is suggested. The laser sensor is mounted on the trolley, and measures the height of the container stack. The stack profile at each yard slot is monitored continuously and dynamically as the trolley and gantry move. Errors in the data of the stack height that might possibly occur due to vibration in the trolley during movement are eliminated with the use of a digital compass. The algorithm to reduce the scanning time as the crane travels on the optimum routine to minimize the movement distance is proposed. The experimental results using a simulator of yard crane are reported.

ABSTRACT: The precise and fast position control of motor for the embroidery machine drive is very important to improve an operating efficiency. In this paper, the method to control rapidly and precisely the position of PMSM by adjusting the proportional gain in the position controller to a position error is suggested. Through simulation studies, the position of PMSM reaches rapidly reference position without any overshoots.
