  • Article: [Modern therapy of sleep apnea].
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: There are different treatment options for obstructive sleep apnea, which are selectively used based on severity of sleep apnea, physical structure of the upper airway, and other medical aspects including co-morbidities. Weight loss as well as avoidance of alcohol and other CNS depressants is generally recommended. Positional training, oral appliances and surgery of the upper airways are used in selected cases. CPAP is the most effective method for treating obstructive sleep apnea irrespective of disease severity. In patients with central sleep apnea or Cheyne-Stokes respiration (CSA/CSR) diagnosis and treatment of the underlying cause is mandatory. Adaptive servo-ventilation appears to be an effective treatment modality for patients with complex sleep apnea and with CSA/CSR that is resistant to CPAP.

  • Article: Moderne Therapie der Schlafapnoe
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
Article: Vector and Tensor Analyzing Powers of the H(d,gamma)He-3 capture reaction
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Precise measurements of the deuteron vector analyzing power Ayd and the tensor analyzing power Ayy of the H(d,gamma)He-3 capture reaction have been performed at deuteron energies of 29MeV and 45MeV. The data have been compared to theoretical state-of-the-art calculations available today. Due to the large sensitivity of polarization observables and the precision of the data light could be shed on small effects present in the dynamics of the reaction. Article: Measurement of the asymmetries in 3He(e,e'p)d and 3He(e,e'p)np
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The electron-target-asymmetries A_parallel and A_perpendicular with target spin parallel and perpendicular to the momentum transfer q were measured for both the two-- and three-body breakup of 3He in the 3He(e,e'p)-reaction. Polarized electrons were scattered off polarized 3He in the quasielastic regime in parallel kinematics with the scattered electron and the knocked-out proton detected using the Three-Spectrometer-Facility at MAMI. The results are compared to Faddeev calculations which take into account Final State Interactions as well as Meson Exchange Currents. The experiment confirms the prediction of a large effect of Final State Interactions in the asymmetry of the three-body breakup and of an almost negligible one for the two-body breakup. • Article: [Diagnosis and therapy of acute pancreatitis].
    G Adler, H Woehrle
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: In acute pancreatitis the evaluation of severity is as important as the diagnosis. If there is evidence for severe pancreatitis, an immediate intensive care of all organ systems is needed, to avoid complications. Besides clinical signs, serum CRP is the most valuable parameter to define severity. According to present knowledge, a CT-scan is only needed in sepsis or multiorgan failure. Non-invasive ventilation should be started early in case of hypoxia. Up to now, no general benefit was detected for antibiotic prophylaxis or enteral nutrition. No consensus exists whether and when endoscopic interventions are superior to surgery in the treatment of infected necrosis.

  • Article: Diagnostik und Therapie der akuten Pankreatitis
    G. Adler, H. Woehrle
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
In acute pancreatitis the evaluation of severity is as important as the diagnosis. Article: Measurement of the electric form factor of the neutron at Q2=0.5 and 1.0 GeV2/c2.
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The electric form factor of the neutron was determined from measurements of the d-->(e-->,e'n)p reaction for quasielastic kinematics. Polarized electrons were scattered off a polarized deuterated ammonia (15ND3) target in which the deuteron polarization was perpendicular to the momentum transfer. The scattered electrons were detected in a magnetic spectrometer in coincidence with neutrons in a large solid angle detector. We find G(n)(E)=0.0526+/-0.0033(stat)+/-0.0026(sys) and 0.0454+/-0.0054+/-0.0037 at Q(2)=0.5 and 1.0 (GeV/c)(2), respectively.

Article: Final State Interaction Effects in pol 3He(pol e,e'p)
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Asymmetries in quasi-elastic pol 3He(pol e,e'p) have been measured at a momentum transfer of 0.67 (GeV/c)^2 and are compared to a calculation which takes into account relativistic kinematics in the final state and a relativistic one-body current operator. With an exact solution of the Faddeev equation for the 3He-ground state and an approximate treatment of final state interactions in the continuum good agreement is found with the experimental data.

Article: Precise Neutron Magnetic Form Factors
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Precise data on the neutron magnetic form factor G_{mn} have been obtained with measurements of the ratio of cross sections of D(e,e'n) and D(e,e'p) up to momentum transfers of Q^2 = 0.9 (GeV/c)^2. Data with typical uncertainties of 1.5% are presented. These data allow for the first time to extract a precise value of the magnetic radius of the neutron.
