Article: An automatically compensated readout channel for rotary encoder systems
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Presents a readout channel for high-performance rotary encoders. It includes a photodiode, which transduces light pulses into current signals, and the corresponding readout electronics, which produces the digital output related to the angular position information. Digitally programmable calibration is provided to compensate for spreads in the impinging light power. Care was taken to ensure thermal stability and minimize noise contributions of the readout electronics. These features improve the performance of the presently used absolute encoders and reduce the cost of the whole encoder system. Experimental evaluations on integrated prototypes demonstrated the correct operation of the circuit with an optical input power from 0.5 to 4.5 μW at a maximum frequency of 500 kHzIEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement 01/2002; · 1.21 Impact Factor -
Conference Proceeding: CMOS front-end for optical rotary encoders
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: This paper presents a front-end circuit for optical rotary encoders. The light pulses modulated by the encoder disc are transduced into current signals, which are pre-processed and converted into digital waveforms related to the angular position information. The proposed front-end circuit is compensated against temperature drifts. Digitally programmable calibration is provided to account for spreads in light pulse power. Measurement results on integrated prototypes are shownElectronics, Circuits and Systems, 2000. ICECS 2000. The 7th IEEE International Conference on; 02/2000 -
