ABSTRACT: This paper presents detailed description of a real-time hand gesture recognition system using embedded DSP board and image processing approaches. Such a system which can identify hand postures and dynamic gestures has manifold potential applications range from sign languages to human computer interaction. We use Q6455 DSP board based on 4 TI-TMS320C6455 DSPs as the computational unit. This versatile signal processing module has powerful computing and interconnection capability. To recognize hand postures, algorithm based on skin color segmentation and geometric invariant feature has been used. During identify dynamic gestures, optical flow tracking approach and direction encoding are adopted. The implementation of high reliable algorithm on DSP board keeps the system robust and efficient. Experimental results show that the proposed system performs well in recognizing hand postures and dynamic gestures real timely. The accuracy and scalability of this system are also soundly proved.

ABSTRACT: The Department of Electronic Engineering of Beijing Institute of Technology is integrating emerging interconnect technologies with other high-performance technologies to meet the demanding requirement of future, real-time signal processing applications. For next-generation, scalable, modular and adaptable signal-processing system, a universal, flexible and high-performance signal processing module based on TMS320C6455 and RapidIO interconnect has been developed. The TMS320C6455 is the state-of-the-art fixed-point DSP from Texas Instruments with the computing-capability of 9600MIPS. RapidIO, a switched fabric technology for board-to-board and chip-to-chip interconnect, is for interconnectingheterogeneous computing nodes in a low-latency, high throughput and traffic-manageable way. With this versatile module, massively parallel multi-DSP computing system is feasible. In this paper, a prototype of 3 modules with 12 TMS320C6455s aggregated by Serial RapidIO is introduced and an application of this computing system in radar jamming system is briefly covered.

ABSTRACT: The ever-increasing performance requirement of real-time signal processing applications drives the integration of emerging interconnect technologies with high-performance processors and ADCs. In order to construct a scalable and high-performance signal processing system, we have developed two kinds of flexible signal processing modules based on high performance ADC, heterogeneous processors and the RapidIO interconnect technology. The receiver module mainly consists of two 10bits 2Gsps ADCs, one TMS320C6455 and one XC5V95T FPGA. And the processing module is composed of four TMS320C6455 and one XC4VSX55. In this paper, a heterogeneous massive multi-processor system consists of one receiver module and two processing module aggregated by the RapidIO is introduced which may act as dual-channel wideband receiver. And its application in multi-channel receiver is discussed.
