    ABSTRACT: In this paper, design and optimization of interior permanent magnet motor for electric power steering application is studied. IPM motors advantages in automotive systems are discussed. Optimization is done with different objective function such as power to weight and magnet volume. After obtaining the motor parameters, we evaluate the performance of entire system through some different tests. Simulation results show that the system performance can improved using an IPM motor and drive because of its high torque density and capability of flux weakening operation. With the EPS logic for the reduction in steering torque, the driver can turn the steering wheel with a significantly reduced steering torque. With the EPS control to return to center performance, a quick response of steering wheel without overshoot after cornering can be obtained by proper control of assist motor.

    ABSTRACT: Electric power steering is a new kind of power steering which is developing rapidly these years due to their superior energy efficiency and energy conservation. This paper presents the design criteria of a tubular linear motor with interior permanent magnet and a tubular interior permanent magnet linear motor is designed and optimized with respect to weight and force ripple for Electric Power Steering application. Such an application requires low motor vibration and low force fluctuations which are considered in design process. A finite element analysis is used to validate the results obtained from the analytical model, comparing the magnetic field quantities as well as the mechanical force.

    ABSTRACT: As the development of microprocessors, power electronic converters and electric motor drives, electric power steering system which uses an electric motor came to use a few year ago. Electric power steering systems have many advantages over traditional hydraulic power steering systems in engine efficiency, space efficiency, and environmental compatibility. This paper deals with design and optimization of an interior permanent magnet motor for power steering application. Direct search method is used for optimization. After optimization and finding motor parameters, an interior permanent magnet motor and drive with mechanical parts of electric power steering system are simulated and performance evaluation of system is done.

    ABSTRACT: Electric Power Steering system provides the assist steer torque in vehicle through an electric motor. Since the electric motor is directly connected to the mechanical steering rack, must have the following features: Torque production with minimum Ripple for Precise steer control, High efficiency, easy Manufacturing technology and minimum size and weight. Motor structure optimization is done in order to increasing force to motor volume ratio, increasing fault tolerance, decreasing Permanent Magnet volume and force ripple. In this paper, Analytical relations Necessary and relevant for optimization have been obtained and finally desired objective function is defined in terms of machine design parameters such as air gap length, inner and outer machine diameter, slots dimensions, PM dimensions and location and machine electric and magnetic characteristics. Motor behavior study and confirmation in force production with determined power supply is done with finite element method simulation. At the end, entire electric power steering system including electric motor, power supply and controller have been simulated and the performance evaluation of system is done.
