ABSTRACT: A case of staphylococcus aureus empyema of the gallbladder in a patient with AIDS-related complex is presented. The case is remarkable for the indolence of the clinical presentation and the magnitude of gallbladder dilatation noted at computed tomographic (CT) examination. Empyema of the gallbladder may constitute an unusual manifestation of bacterial disease in patients with AIDS or AIDS-related complex and cholelithiasis.
