ABSTRACT: In this work the authors try to clarify the effect of model complexity on the computed current densities in different tissues. Comparisons have been performed between different anatomically realistic models with different levels of tissue separation. It has been shown that in the frequency range of TMS, different tissue layers are partially decoupled from each other. In other words, changing the electrical properties of one layer does not affect field distribution in adjacent layers. This can be used to suggest appropriate models with the optimum degree of complexity which best suits the goals of a particular study.
