Article: Determination of 55-155-155-1in second order QCD from hadronicZ decays
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Distributions of event shape variables obtained from 120600 hadronicZ decays measured with the DELPHI detector are compared to the predictions of QCD based event generators. Values of the strong coupling constant s are derived as a function of the renormalization scale from a quantitative analysis of eight hadronic distributions. The final result, s(M Z), is based on second order perturbation theory and uses two hadronization corrections, one computed with a parton shower model and the other with a QCD matrix element model.Zeitschrift für Physik C 02/1992; 54(1):55-73. -

Article: Search for charged Higgs bosons in $e^+ e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 172 GeV
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: This paper presents results on charged Higgs boson production, based on LEP data collected at $\sqrt{s} = 172$ GeV, that complement the previous DELPHI results obtained at centre of mass energies up to 161 GeV. %The analysis is based on LEP data collected at $\sqrt{s} = 172$ GeV. The charged Higgs bosons are assumed to be pair produced and to decay either into a quark pair %, identified as cs, or into $\tau\nu_{\tau}$. The three different possible final states are included in the analysis. Data from ring imaging Cherenkov and microvertex detectors are used to identify the quarks as a cs pair. %No significant signal was found. The number of candidates found is compatible with the background expected from standard processes. Combining the results of the present analysis with those of the previous analysis at lower energies, a new lower mass limit for the charged Higgs boson is set at 54.5 GeV/$c^2$. -
Article: A precise measurement of the $B^{0}_{d}$ meson lifetime using a new technique
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: From data recorded by DELPHI between 1991 and 1994, which correspond to 3.2 million hadronic $\mbox{Z}^0$ decays, a measurement of the $\Bdb$ meson lifetime has been performed based on the inclusive reconstruction of $3520 \pm 150$ semileptonic decays of the type \bc $\Bdb \rightarrow \Dstarp ~X~\ell^-~ \overline{\nu_{\ell}}, $ \ec The result is: \bc $\tau(\Bdb) = 1.537~\pm 0.041 (stat.) \pm 0.039 (syst.) ~\mathrm{ps}$. \ec \noindent The contribution to the systematic uncertainty which depends on external errors is $\pm 0.014~\mathrm{ps}$. -
Article: First measurement of f'$_{2}$(1525) production in Z$^{0}$ hadronic decays
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: \newcommand{\zz}{Z^{0}} Inclusive production of the f'_{2}(1525) in hadronic \zz\ decays has been studied in data collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP. The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detectors were important tools in the identification of the decay f'_{2}(1525)\rightarrow K^+K^-. The average number of f'_{2}(1525) produced per hadronic Z decay, <N_{f^\prime_2}>= 0.020 \pm 0.005\mbox{ (stat)} \pm 0.006\mbox{ (syst)}, and the momentum distribution of the f'_{2}(1525) have both been measured. -

Article: Measurement of the transverse spin correlation in $Z \to \tau^+\tau^-$ decays
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The measurement of the correlation between the transverse spin components of $\tau^+\tau^-$ pairs collected during 1992 to 1994 with the DELPHI detector at LEP1 is presented. A value \begin{center} $C_{TT}$~=~0.87~$\pm$~0.20~(stat.)~$^{+~0.10}_{-~0.12}$~(syst.) \end{center} was obtained for the correlation parameter, in agreement with the St1AU LYi, -
Article: Measurement of the Quark and Gluon Fragmentation Functions in $Z^0$ Hadronic Decays
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The fragmentation functions and multiplicities in $b\overline{b}$ and light quark events are compared. The measured transverse and longitudinal components of the fragmentation function allow the gluon fragmentation function to be evaluated. -
Article: Strange baryon production in Z hadronic decays
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: A study of the production of strange octet and decuplet baryons in hadronic decays of the Z recorded by the DELPHI detector at LEP is presented. This includes the first measurement of the \Sigma^\pm average multiplicity. The total and differential cross sections, the event topology and the baryon-antibaryon correlations are compared with current hadronization models.
