    ABSTRACT: The FTIR and FT-Raman spectra of the gallium(III) complexes of 8-hydroxyquinoline (oxine) and 5-chloro-7-iodo-8-hydroxyquinoline (clioquinol), were recorded and briefly discussed by comparison with the spectra of the uncoordinated ligands and with some related species.

    ABSTRACT: The infrared and Raman spectra of Na[FeEDTA(H(2)O)]x2H(2)O and Na(4)[(FeEDTA)(2)O]x3H(2)O (EDTA=tetra anion of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), two complexes proposed as adequate for iron supplementation, were recorded and analyzed in relation to its structural peculiarities. Some comparisons between the recorded spectra are also presented, and the characteristics of the carboxylate motions as well as those of the metal-to-ligand vibrations are discussed in detail.

Some comparisons between the recorded spectra are also presented and the characteristics of the carboxylate motions as well as those of the metal-to-ligand vibrations are discussed in detail.

    ABSTRACT: Polaprezinc, the Zn(II) complex of the dipeptide carnosine (β-alanyl histidine) presents an interesting biological and pharmacological activity, specially as an anti-ulcer agent. The infrared and Raman spectra of this compound were recorded and briefly discussed. Some comparisons were made with related complexes and with free carnosine. The results confirm the coordination environment of the Zn(II) cation, constituted by the terminal amino N-atom, the deprotonated amide N-atom and one carboxylate oxygen of one dipeptide molecule and the N-atom of the imidazole moiety of a second carnosine molecule.     ABSTRACT: The infrared and Raman spectra of lithium, zinc, calcium and magnesium complexes of L-pyroglutamic acid were recorded and are briefly discussed. For the first three compounds the spectral discussion is based on their known structural characteristics. Comparing the spectroscopic behaviour of the complexes and the free acid, some comments on the structural peculiarities of the magnesium compound could be advanced.     ABSTRACT: The electrochemical properties and the stability of the CrIII complexes [Cr(pic)3]·H2O and [Cr(pic)2(OH)]2·5H2O (Hpic = pyridine-2-carboxylic acid = picolinic acid) were investigated in DMF solutions by cyclic voltammetry, and complemented by electronic spectroscopy. The electrochemical results indicate that both compounds undergo a one-electron reversible reduction process. The mononuclear species has a more accessible reduction potential than the binuclear one. In this last case, the observed one-electron process can be ascribed to a considerable stabilization of the mixed valence CrIII/CrII species. Both complexes were also characterized by infrared and Raman spectroscopy.Voltammetrische und spektrospische Untersuchung von Chrom(III)/Picolinat KomplexenDas elektrochemische Verhalten und die Stabilität der CrIII-Komplexe [Cr(pic)3]·H2O und [Cr(pic)2(OH)]2·5H2O (Hpic = Pyridin-2-Carboxyl-Säure = Picolin- Säure) wurde in DMF Lösung durch cyklische Voltammetrie untersucht und durch Elektronenspektroskopie ergänzt. Die elektrochemischen Ergebnisse zeigen, dass in beiden Verbindungen ein umkehrbarer Ein-Elektron-Reduktionsprozess stattfindet. Die mononukleare Spezies hat ein geringeres Reduktionspotential als die zweikernige. Der in diesem letzten Fall beobachtete Ein-Elektron-Prozess lässt sich durch eine beträchtliche Stabilisierung der gemischten-Valenz CrIII/CrII-Spezies erklären. Beide Komplexe wurden auch mittels Infrarot und Raman Spektroskopie charakterisiert.

    ABSTRACT: The crystal structure of [Tl2(sac)2(H2O)]n (sac = saccharinate anion) has been solved using single crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the triclinic space group P 1 with Z = 2 and presents a polymeric structure formed by two saccharinate anions, one water molecule and two chemically different TlI cations, one 8-coordinate and the other 5-coordinate. Saccharinate shows an unprecedented coordination behavior as it acts as chelating ligand through its N and carbonyl O atoms with the N atom interacting simultaneously with both metal centers, and participation of sulphonyl oxygen atoms in bonding. The most important features of the IR spectrum of the complex are discussed on the basis of the structural peculiarities.Charakterisierung von Thallium(I) Saccharinat: eine neuartige Bindungsform des Saccharinat LigandenDie Kristallstruktur von [Tl2(sac)2(H2O)]n (sac = Anion des Saccharins) wurde röntgenographisch an Einkristallen bestimmt. Es kristallisiert in der triklinen Raumgruppe P 1 mit Z = 2 und zeigt eine polymere Struktur, welche aus zwei Saccharinat Anionen, einem Wasser-Molekül und zwei chemisch verschiedenen TlI-Kationen (eines mit der KZ = 8 und das andere mit der KZ = 5) besteht. Das Saccharinat zeigt eine neuartige Bindungsform, da es als Chelatligand über seine N- und O(carbonyl)-Atome fungiert, wobei das N-Atom gleichzeitig mit beiden Metallzentren in Wechselwirkung tritt, und auch die Sulphonyl-Sauerstoffatome an den Bindungen beteiligt sind. Die wichtigsten Aspekte des IR-Spektrums des Komplexes werden an Hand der Strukturbesonderheiten analysiert und besprochen.

    ABSTRACT: The crystal structure of [Pb(sac)2ophen(H2O)2] (sac = saccharinate anion; ophen = 1,10-phenanthroline) has been solved by single X-ray diffractometry. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 4. The PbII atom presents the coordination number eight with unusual coordination of the ligand atoms between square-antiprism and dodecahedron. The saccharinate anion acts as a bidentate ligand. The i. r. spectrum of the complex has been analyzed in detail and assigned on the basis of the structural peculiarities.Kristallstruktur und IR-Spektrum von Diaqua(o-Phenanthrolin)-bis(saccharinato)blei(II)Die Kristallstruktur von [Pb(sac)2ophen(H2O)2] (sac = Anion des Saccharins; ophen = 1,10-Phenanthrolin) wurde röntgenographisch an Einkristallen bestimmt.     ABSTRACT: The synthesis and X-ray crystal and molecular structures of a new Li(I) complex of stoichiometry [Li(isoor)H2O]2, where isoor is the monoanion of 5-carboxyuracil (isoorotic acid), are reported. It crystallizes in the monoclinic P21/n space group with Z=2, and a five-fold bipyramidal coordination around the Li(I) was observed for the first time. The electronic, infrared and Raman spectra of the complex are briefly discussed. Its thermal behavior was investigated by means of thermal gravimetry (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Dissolution studies were also performed in order to test the pharmacological characteristics of the complex.

Some comparisons with related Cu(II)/amino acid complexes were made. RESUMEN. "Espectro Vibracional del Bis(L-metioninato)cobre(II)". Se registraron los espectros de infrarojo y Raman del complejo del título y se los discutió brevemente en base a sus carcaterísticas estructurales. Se hacen algunas comparaciones con otros complejos de Cu(II)/amino ácidos relacionados. INTRODUCTION Copper (II) complexes of simple amino acids are of great pharmacological interest and importance as much of them present a wide spectrum of effects, including anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, anticonvulsant and even antitumoral activity 1-4 . As part of a research project devoted to the characterization of copper complexes with re-cognized pharmacological activity, in the last ye-ars we have investigated the spectroscopic pro-perties of the copper (II) complexes with amino acids containing hydrophobic 5 , hydroxylic 6 and acidic 7 residues. Most recently, we have al-so investigated the structure and general physi-cochemical properties of some simple Cu(II)/di-peptide complexes 8,9 . As a continuation of the-se studies we have now prepared and investiga-ted the infrared and Raman spectra of bis(L-met-hioninato)copper(II). Methionine (Figure 1) is one of the nine es-sential amino acids needed by human beings and is the only essential amino acid containing sulfur in its structure. Its copper (II) complex showed some antiulcer activity as revealed by animal model studies 10 and has also found so-me interest in veterinary medicine, for copper supplementation 11,12 .
