Article: Preparation and characterization of silicone rubber/functionalized carbon nanotubes composites via in situ polymerization.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The dispersion of the nanometer-sized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in a silicone matrix leads to a marked improvement in the properties of the silicone based composite. In this study, silicone rubber/MWCNTs nanocomposite was successfully prepared by functionalizing MWCNTs with silane compound. This allowed a homogeneous dispersion of functionalized MWCNTs in the silicone matrix. The morphology of functionalized MWCNTs was observed using transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectrometer. The silicone rubber/functionalized MWCNTs (1 wt%) composites showed that the tensile strength and modulus of the composites improved dramatically by about 50% and 28%, respectively, compared with silicone rubber.Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology 11/2008; 8(10):5551-4. · 1.56 Impact Factor -
Article: Monodisperse hollow titania nanospheres prepared using a cationic colloidal template.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Titania-coated polymeric nanoparticles were synthesized based on the cationic colloidal particles which were prepared by surfactant-free emulsion copolymerization of styrene and butylacrylate in the presence of a cationic monomer, methacryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (MOTAC) using azobis(isobutylamidine)hydrochloride (AIBA) as an initiator. These cationic particles were stabilized by poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP). Then, these particles were dispersed in ethanol and mixed with titanium(IV) butoxide. Negatively charged titania precursors were rapidly hydrolyzed onto the cationic surfaces of colloidal particles. Subsequently, the samples were heated to 450 degrees C to form anatase TiO2 and to remove the colloidal template, which resulted in hollow nanospheres. The hollow titania particles were characterized with zeta analyzer, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, light scattering, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and FT-IR.Journal of Colloid and Interface Science 01/2007; 304(2):370-7. · 3.07 Impact Factor
