  • Conference Proceeding: The behaviour of the LSPMSM in asynchronous operation
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The paper proposes a study of synchronization capability of line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor with small saliency ratio and very high cage resistance. The exemplified method is for a motor with the rated power of 3.5 kW, the synchronous speed of 3000 rpm, and the saliency ratio of 1.08.

Conference Proceeding: Analytical design and analysis of Line-Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor (LSPMSM) attracted a considerable attention because of the higher value of the product between the power factor and the efficiency. The paper proposes an analytical design method for the LSPMSM, considering the asynchronous starting and the synchronous steady state parameters. Using this theoretical approach, all the synchronous and asynchronous starting characteristics will be calculated. The design of a motor having the following specifications: rated output power 3.5 kW, rated voltage 200 V, rated frequency 50 Hz, rated speed 3000 rpm is presented.

  • Conference Proceeding: Design of a 42 V automotive alternator with integrated switched-mode rectifier
    D. Stoia, M. Cernat
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Due to its simplicity and low manufacturing costs, the Lundell or claw-pole alternator resists in competition as an electromechanical source of the electrical energy m vehicles. Lundell alternators are today built in a power range up to 5 kW and in a speed range up to 18000 rpm. A new 42 V power management system was proposed. It consists of the conventional power management system at which, between the passive rectifier and the load (consisting of the lead-acid battery and a resistive consumer) a switched-mode rectifier (consisting of a diode D and a MOSFET transistor T) was included.

  • Conference Proceeding: Stability of the line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor sensorless drive
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: An analysis and experimental verification of the operating point stability of the line-start permanent synchronous machine (LSPMSM) supplied from a current source provided with power factor control is presented. The control system acts to inject the stator currents at a controlled angle related to the stator voltages. The machine parameters are varying because of magnetic saturation and as a result the control performances are affected by saturation. The effects of magnetic saturation and inverter imperfections are included.
