Article: Ultrabroadband tunable continuous-wave difference-frequency generation in periodically poled lithium niobate waveguides.
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: We report, for what is the first time to our knowledge, widely tunable mid-IR light generation over a range of greater than 1000 nm in the 4 microm region by employing a single quasi-phase-matched periodically poled niobate waveguide at room temperature. The waveguide we used was fabricated by annealed proton exchange based on periodically poled lithium niobate. A peak conversion efficiency of 10%/W and a linewidth as small as 37 MHz were achieved. The developed mid-IR light generator may find wide applications in trace gas detection of multiple atmospheric species and high-resolution spectroscopy.Optics Letters 08/2007; 32(13):1953-5. · 3.40 Impact Factor -
Article: Broadband difference frequency generation around 4.2μm at overlapped phase-match conditions
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Broadband difference frequency generation is theoretically and experimentally confirmed. It is shown that a wide tunable range of greater than 220 nm (FWHM) around 4.2 μm can be obtained in a 40 mm long periodically poled lithium niobate crystal with a single quasi-phase-matched period at a certain temperature. The broad bandwidth can be explained by means of the group-velocity matching or phase-mismatch minimization at overlapped phase-match conditions. The result shows that the broadband mid-infrared (mid-IR) laser source may find profound applications in trace gases detection of multiple atmospheric species and high resolution spectroscopy.Optics Communications.
