Conference Proceeding: A New Approach For Handling 3D Medical Data In An Immersive Environment
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Medical Imaging applications use images coming from different sources such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), to generate 3D data. Starting from these volumetric data, applications reconstruct 3D models of anatomical structures which could be manipulated and analyzed. In this paper we present a new approach for the visualization and interaction with volumetric datasets in a fully immersive environment. It allows to handle the reconstructed models directly within the virtual scene; in particular a technique is described for outlining the Volume Of Interest (VOI) functionality in a three-dimensional dataset for a visual interactive inspection and manipulation of the organ of interest.Virtual Environments, Human-Computer Interfaces and Measurement Systems, 2007. Conference Proceeding: An Open-source Software Architecture for Immersive Medical Imaging
[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: This paper presents an open-source software architecture for immersive medical imaging applications. In particular, the software system integrates open-source and cross-platform libraries for medical applications (VTK, ITK) with 3D graphic and virtual reality libraries (OpenSceneGraph, Chromium, VR Juggler) in order to efficiently support both operators and researchers in the medical field. In addition to this, the software system has been enhanced by pervasive computing characteristics like context-awareness and transparent access that enable mobile users to interact with the virtual environment, in a spontaneous and transparent way, with their own mobile devicesVirtual Environments, Human-Computer Interfaces and Measurement Systems, Proceedings of 2006 IEEE International Conference on; 08/2006
