    ABSTRACT: There is no method for providing bidirectional traffic and travel information (TTI) based on Internet Protocol (IP) to special interest group in safety using terrestrial-digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB). In order to solve this problem, we propose a new TPEG application protocol based on IPv6 interoperable with TPEG protocol, and introduce the TTI data server and the bidirectional TTI contents server. The receiving platform based on laptop computer is connected to T-DMB receiver and CDMA modem simultaneously, and it includes TPEG-IPv6 processing module complied with the proposed application protocol. The stability and effectiveness of the proposed TPEG-IPv6 application protocol is verified through the field test.

    ABSTRACT: In this paper, we describe a new 1/4 rate robust modulation techniques for Enhanced-xVSB system which is fully backward compatible with ATSC 8-VSB standard. 1/4 rate mode Enhanced-xVSB system provides broadcasters with a wide choice of trade-offs of data rate vs amount of robustness of enhanced data for pedestrian/mobile services. Lab test results of proposed Enhanced-xVSB 1/4 rate mode robust stream is a significantly improved multipath as well as AWGN reception performance for Enhanced-xVSB receiver.     ABSTRACT: This paper proposes the network structure and service model to deliver new traffic and travel information (TTI) services over terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) and a bidirectional network. We have newly specified a POI (point-of-interest) and a NWS (news information) application services which are perfectly compatible with TPEG (transport protocol expert group) protocols, and implemented T-DMB based TTI systems including TPEG encoder/decoder and a return-channel server system through CDMA as a bidirectional network. In the real-field environment as verifying the proposed services and systems above, we showed their stability and effectiveness by the excellent results in this paper.

    ABSTRACT: Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) can provide a variety of data services such as traffic and travel information (TTI), EPG and BWS. Among these data services, the demand of TTI service has dramatically increased due to rapid increase in the number of vehicles and population of frequently traveling on long-weekends. In order to providing TTI services, TPEG protocol was developed. However, it has been applied merely to two application areas such as RTM and PTI. Recently, the traffic status image information (TSI) service based on still image or moving pictures becomes more important because public confidence about the accuracy of currently used coded-traffic information is low. In this paper, we propose a novel bidirectional TSI application. It can overcome the drawbacks of conventional RTM service, which cannot provide any subjective route decision chance to users. The proposed application protocol is designed to be interoperable with TPEG and can be provided in T-DMB. To verify the stability of proposed application protocol, we implemented the data server/client, the receiving platform and the bidirectional contents server/host server. Through an experimental broadcasting using by T-DMB and wireless communication networks, it is shown that the proposed bidirectional TSI application protocol operates stably and effectively.

    ABSTRACT: The demand of travel and traffic information (TTI) service has dramatically increased due to rapid increment in the number of vehicles and population of frequently traveling on long weekends. In order to satisfying such a demand, a transport protocol experts group (TPEG) protocol was developed. However, merely two TPEG applications were standardized up to now. This paper presents a novel application, traffic status image information (TSI) application compatible to the existing TPEG protocol, which can be provided in T-DMB network. To verify the stability of TSI protocol, we implemented TSI data server/client, and T-DMB receiver with TSI decoder. Through an experimental broadcasting in the local DMB network, it is shown that the proposed application operates stably and effectively in the verification receiver.

    ABSTRACT: This paper describes advanced dual stream system for improving mobile/pedestrian reception performance to the ATSC DTV 8-VSB transmission standard. E-xVSB system can transmit a mixture of normal (8-VSB) stream and enhanced (robust) stream. The robust stream has a higher threshold of visibility (TOV) compared to the standard stream, and legacy receivers ignore the robust packets. Thus, Enhanced-xVSB system is fully backward compatible with a current ATSC standard. For more robust transmission support, E-xVSB system adopts a reduced constellation method as well as enhanced trellis-coded modulation scheme. E-xVSB system supports a variety of enhanced modulation schemes: Pseudo-2VSB, Enhanced-4VSB, modified Enhanced-8VSB and Hybrid-VSB. Proposed system has been tested in the Lab, and the testing results are shown in this paper.

    ABSTRACT: In this paper, we propose a new three-dimensional television broadcasting system (3DTV) that is fully compatible with the existing DTV system. Specifically, we propose the PMT structure for 3DTV service including a new descriptor. As a result of our subjective evaluation test, most of participants perceived the 3D depth of 3DTV as "good", and preferred a 3DTV to the conventional digital broadcasting service. Moreover, we confirmed the compatibility with the commercial DTV STB.

    ABSTRACT: This paper presents a new location based service (LBS) that can be provided in digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) transmission system economically and effectively. We propose a point of interest (POI) protocol compatible to transport protocol experts group (TPEG) and introduce the POI data server and the verification platform implemented by using the proposed protocol. As a filed result, the stability and effectiveness of proposed protocol is verified.

    ABSTRACT: The digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) allows can provide an economical way of massive multimedia data services, thus, it is emerging as an optimal solution to address the several drawbacks of the mobile communication network. Among the data services based on the DMB, the traffic and travel Information (TTI) service has been spotlighted in aspects of economic influence and information usability. For example, the demand of TTI service has dramatically increased due to rapid increase in the number of vehicles and population of frequently traveling on long-weekends. In order to satisfying such a demanding, a transport protocol experts group (TPEG) protocol was developed. However, TPEG has been applied merely to two application areas up to now and there is no consideration to standardize new services very valuable for drivers and travelers. This paper presents new economic and effective point of interest (POI) and news services compatible to TPEG that can be provided in the DMB. To verify the stability of POI and news protocols, we implemented the TTI data server/client, and the DMB/DAB receiver with the TTI decoder. Through the experimental broadcasting in the local DMB network, it is shown that the proposed protocol operates stably and effectively in the navigation system.

    ABSTRACT: This paper introduces T-DMB (terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting) receiver to provide TTI (traffic and traveler information) service through T-DMB signal. TTI service is one of the most popular services among the data services based on T-DMB, because many people need real time traffic information to avoid the traffic jam caused by the rapid increase in the traffic volume. Many travelers also want travel information around the interested point to visit. In order to satisfy these demands, we developed T-DMB receiver for TTI service based on T-DMB system having high performance in mobility and reception. This receiver can receive two kinds of services simultaneously, and so we can get TTI service while watching the video service through T-DMB in a car. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of the receiver and then show the TTI service, which includes RTM (road traffic message), PTI (public transport information), POI (point of interest) and NEWS.

    ABSTRACT: In this paper, we propose a novel method that can generate a computer-generated hologram (CGH) from the depth stream and color video outputs provided by ENG camera. To generate CGH, distinguished from an existing electronic holographic display system that uses a computer graphic model, we utilizes video image from a depth camera. This procedure consists of two steps that the acquisition of a depth-annotated image of real object, and generation of CGH according to the 3D information that is extracted from the depth cue. Experimentally, we display the generated CGH via a holographic display system using liquid-crystal display.
