ABSTRACT: High-accuracy mass measurements have been performed with the Penning trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP at ISOLDE/CERN. The short-lived
nuclides 70, 71, 72, 73Se , 72, 73, 74, 75Br , and 98, 99, 100, 101, 103Ag have been measured with an average uncertainty of a few keV. The data are important input for nucleosynthesis calculations
of the rp-process beyond Z = 32 .

ABSTRACT: A theory of self-induced transparency for a TM-mode propagating
in a planar semiconductor waveguide sandwiched between two dielectric media is developed. A transition layer between the waveguide
and one of the
connected media is described using a model of a two-dimensional sheet
of quantum dots. Explicit analytical expressions for the
optical soliton in the presence of single-excitonic and biexcitonic transitions are
obtained with realistic parameters which can be reached in current
experiments.

ABSTRACT: Current ex situ collections of the wild rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis were gathered more than 25years ago mainly from populations in Southwest Amazonia. Information regarding the structure of
genetic diversity among these populations is fragmented and needs refinement. Having analyzed polymorphisms at 15 microsatellites
loci throughout the Hevea genome, we report on the genetic diversity of 307 clonally propagated individuals from 19 different collection points. All
analyzed loci were highly polymorphic, averaging 21.7 alleles per locus, and displayed heterozygote deficiency. Differentiation
among populations was analyzed on a subsample of 220 individuals from 14 populations. The overall F
ST is 0.12; although low, this value is significant and suggests moderate differentiation. Mato Grosso (Brazil) populations
were genetically more distant from all other populations. A highly significant correlation between genetic and geographical
distances over the whole area under study was shown by the Mantel test. The Bayesian algorithm used by STRUCTURE software allowed for the identification of three population clusters that match the boundaries of hydrographical basins of
the main Amazon River tributaries. Differentiation among populations could therefore be jointly explained by both geographical
location within the hydrographical Amazon network and by isolation by distance among populations belonging to distinct catchments.
It is likely that some of these populations no longer exist due to severe deforestation. We provide suggestions to improve
genetic resource management and sampling strategy in natural populations of H. brasiliensis.

ABSTRACT: The intestinal parasite Entamoeba histolytica is one of the first protists for which a draft genome sequence has been published. Although the genome is still incomplete, it is unlikely that many genes are missing from the list of those already identified. In this chapter we summarise the features of the genome as they are currently understood and provide previously unpublished analyses of many of the genes.

ABSTRACT: The Penning-trap mass spectrometer at the ion trap facility SHIPTRAP is in the final stage of commissioning. First on-line
mass measurements of neutron-deficient radionuclides in the rare-earth region around A = 147 were performed in July 2004. Systematic investigations in order to determine systematic errors are ongoing. Further
improvements of the efficiency of the system are in preparation, e.g. improved detection schemes and further optimization of the stopping cell. SHIPTRAP will then address exotic nuclides produced
in fusion-evaporation reactions at the velocity filter SHIP. This production technique will give access to nuclei not available
at ISOL facilities, especially in the transuranium region.

ABSTRACT: The Penning trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP has to date been used for the determination of close to 300 masses of radionuclides.
A relative mass uncertainty of 10−8 can now be reached. Recent highlights were measurements of rp-process nuclides as for instance 72–74Kr or superallowed β emitters like 22Mg, 74Rb and 34Ar. The heaviest nuclides measured so far with ISOLTRAP are neutron-rich radium and francium isotopes. An overview of ISOLTRAP
mass measurements and details about the recent experiment on 229–232Ra and 230Fr are presented.

ABSTRACT: SHIPTRAP will allow direct measurement of masses of transuranium nuclides. The method of choice is a Penning trap spectrometer
coupled to the SHIP (Separator for Heavy Ion Products) facility at GSI, Darmstadt. In this paper the impact of the SHIPTRAP
facility, with its capability of systematic mass measurements with high precision, is explored. Rather few masses of nuclides
above uranium are presently known experimentally. In the region of nuclides above Z=100 no ground state masses were measured directly. SHIPTRAP will play an important role in systematically mapping out this
area. Possible candidates for direct mass measurements, even with small or very small production cross sections, are presented.

ABSTRACT: Die pharmakoökonomische Bewertung von Arzneimitteln gewinnt als Entscheidungshilfe im Gesundheitswesen in Anbetracht der knappen
Ressourcen zunehmend an Bedeutung.

ABSTRACT: Bioreactor control software is most often offered from bioreactor manufacturers. This software package is especially designed
for the features of their fermentors and peripherals. In most cases it is not flexible enough to integrate additional devices
of other vendors, such as pumps, balances, sampling devices or analytical online systems (FIA).

ABSTRACT: Recently, in vitro studies have demonstrated that expression of FcɛR2/CD23 on normal monocytes can be specifically induced by IL-4. In order to investigate the interaction of IL-4 and monocytes in rheumatic diseases, flow cytometry studies were performed. Elevated numbers of circulating FcɛR2/ CD23+ monocytes were detected in patients with progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS) as compared with controls, in addition, supernatants derived from phytohaemagglutinin-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells of PSS patients contained high activity to induce FcɛR2/CD23 on CDI4+ monocytes. An increased frequency of FcɛR2/CD23+ monocytes was also observed in rheumatoid arthritis, and sequential studies in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus showed a close relationship between FcɛR2/CD23+ monocytes and disease activity. It is suggested that IL-4 has an important role in the pathogenesis of PSS by activating monocytes, and might also contribute to monocyte activation in other rheumatic diseases.

ABSTRACT: There are a great variety of optical nonlinearities that can lead to the phenomenon of laser-induced gratings (LIG) in semiconductors. In the present contribution the dynamic behaviour of an induced absorber with intrinsic bistability is investigated under excitation in a LIG self-diffraction arrangement. Using CdS as a model substance, the comparison of our theoretical model with our experimental findings gives an insight into the nonlinear dynamics of the degenerate carrier system and also an estimation of the transport properties of the electron-hole plasma.

ABSTRACT: The St. Malo migmatitic dome represents an interesting example wherein migmatites arise from the anatexis of the surrounding gneisses. Petrographical and chemical data suggest that leucosome compositions are compatible with partial melting of the quartzo-feldsphathic fraction of the parent gneiss. The contribution of the incongruent melting of biotite to the melt does not exceed 5% of the parent rock.Petrogenetic modelling based on experimental data and assuming non modal batch melting show that the K, Rb, Ca, Sr, U and Th chemical patterns of these migmatites result in fact from the interaction of several mechanisms, namely: equilibrium partial melting, mixing between melts and refractory minerals (biotite and accessories), melt removal and late hydrothermal alteration. Zr, Y and Th which are mostly hosted in accessory minerals are significantly withheld from the melts and remain stored in melanosomes (metatexites) except when leucosomes are affected by mixing (diatexites). U is frequently enriched in the leucosomes as well as in some melanosomes suggesting external supply.
