Article: MicroRNA-128 inhibits glioma cells proliferation by targeting transcription factor E2F3a.
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: MicroRNAs are approximately 21nt single-stranded RNAs and function as regulators of gene expression. Previous studies have shown that microRNAs play crucial roles in tumorigenesis by targeting the mRNAs of oncogenes or tumor suppressors. Here we show that brain-enriched miR-128 is down-regulated in glioma tissues and cell lines when compared to normal brain tissues. Overexpression of miR-128 in glioma cells inhibited cell proliferation. A bioinformatics search revealed a conserved target site within the 3'untranslated region (UTR) of E2F3a, a transcription factor that regulates cell cycle progression. The protein levels of E2F3a in gliomas and normal brain tissues were negatively correlated to the expression levels of miR-128 in these tissues. Overexpression of miR-128 suppressed a luciferase-reporter containing the E2F3a-3'UTR and reduced the level of E2F3a protein in T98G cells. Moreover, knocking down of E2F3a had similar effect as overexpression of miR-128, and overexpression of E2F3a can partly rescue the proliferation inhibition caused by miR-128. Taken together, our study demonstrates that miR-128 can inhibit proliferation of glioma cells through one of its targets, E2F3a.

  • Conference Proceeding: Context-Aware Learning Privacy Disclosure Policy from Interaction History
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Context-aware applications use personal information to provide appropriate services for people. This personal information is often involved in personal privacy. In order to balance the personal privacy concerns against enjoying context-aware services, we propose a conceptual framework and privacy role to control access personal information. Privacy disclosure policy can be learned from people's interaction history about personal information disclosure using rough set theory. According to deducing from the privacy disclosure policy and context information, a context-aware application is assigned to an adequate privacy role. A case analysis and the initial performance evaluation show that the proposed method is effective.

  • Conference Proceeding: Uncertain Privacy Decision about Access Personal Information in Pervasive Computing Environments
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: In pervasive computing environments, context- aware applications provide services for people by using personal information. People also make privacy decision about personal information disclosure as privacy concerns. Privacy decision depends on people's interaction situation. The trust of information collector and personal information sensitivity often enable people to make uncertain privacy decision. Therefore, we construct a fuzzy objective information system that consists of personal interaction situation history. The privacy disclosure policies are extracted from this information system under using rough set theory. The context-aware applications are assigned to an adequate privacy role with the privacy disclosure policies and situation of people's interaction. Finally, we provide a working example and the initial performance evaluation.

  • Conference Proceeding: A Study on Context-aware Privacy Protection for Personal Information
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: By using personal information in a pervasive computing environment, context-aware applications can provide appropriate services for people. This personal information is often involved in personal privacy. In order to protect personal privacy concerns about personal information, privacy role is proposed to control access personal information. We also construct an information system about the privacy decision of personal information disclosure based on people's interaction history. In the initial period of personal information disclosure, the privacy decision is made by people and the information system is constructed based on the decision data. Then privacy disclosure policies are extracted from this information system using rough set theory. According to deducing from the privacy disclosure policies and people's context information, the context-aware application is assigned to an adequate privacy role. It reduces the distraction of privacy decision for people. A case study further shows the proposed method is effective. Finally, it provides about the overload performance of privacy role analysis engine.

  • Article: Fuzzy privacy decision for context-aware access personal information
    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: A context-aware privacy protection framework was designed for context-aware services and privacy control methods about access personal information in pervasive environment. In the process of user’s privacy decision, it can produce fuzzy privacy decision as the change of personal information sensitivity and personal information receiver trust. The uncertain privacy decision model was proposed about personal information disclosure based on the change of personal information receiver trust and personal information sensitivity. A fuzzy privacy decision information system was designed according to this model. Personal privacy control policies can be extracted from this information system by using rough set theory. It also solves the problem about learning privacy control policies of personal information disclosure.

  • Conference Proceeding: A Conflict Resolution Method in Context-Aware Computing

ABSTRACT: The creation of various mobile devices speeded up the development of context-aware computing. Context-aware applications are able to adjust execution policies at any moment according to context information such as equipment's position, electric power, network bandwidth, and so on. In various context-aware systems, an important solution is to isolate executable codes in different context into a number of program segments and to select different execution policies according to the context in the process of operation, thus increasing the programming flexibility. However, the method can result in conflicts, making the system unable to select correct execution policy. This paper proposes a kind of algorithm designed to resolve conflicts. The algorithm calculates the selection center of each policy and the offset value of each conflicting policy under the current context environment. The algorithm will select execution policies through comparing offsets of policies, thus eliminating conflicts. To avoid the problem of policy thrashing resulting from frequent changes of context environment within a small scope, the algorithm modifies the calculate method of offset through the introduction of persistence coefficient. Experiments testify that the algorithm can effectively eliminate conflicts and well manifest the intention of policy definition, making policy selection more reasonable. Meanwhile the algorithm can avoid the thrashing of policy selection, providing more satisfaction to user.

  • Conference Proceeding: Cache Predicting Algorithm Based on Context-Aware in Pervasive Computing

    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: In pervasive computing, mobile device needs to make data access continuously, but in the influence of network and other factors, it could be disconnected. In order to support the continuous data access in case of disconnection, it needs to predict the possible access of data made by users and cache these data on the mobile client. Through data cache, it could store the data that the user could access in future on the client in advance, therefore the effects of disconnected mobile device on data access could be avoided and the quality of service could be accordingly raised. Among the present buffer management algorithms, the computing process either takes no account of context, or divides the data in groups to make a forecast separately according to the context information. These two methods could not fully consider the trend of the whole user access and the impact of user context on the predicted consequences. This paper puts forward a buffer management algorithm, which establishes the association between various data on the basis of data access records and makes data group; after computing the accessing frequency of data sets over the current contexts, it makes cache replacement of the results in terms of cache residence time and accessing frequency. The results of simulation tests show that this kind of algorithm could effectively improve the cache hit rate in the case of disconnected operation for handheld mobile devices, and better support the disconnected operation of mobile devices.

    [show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Content protection is now becoming more and more important for digital rights management (DRM), which involves rights embedding, identification, rights validation digital multimedia resource is popular in the real world, how to protect multimedia content from be violated without rights control is an important thing especially to resist copy-spread kind violation. In this paper, an novel approach for multimedia rights management is proposed based on partial encryption method, which can control multimedia resource played in a rights-constraint environment, which can protect multimedia resource from being copying and spreading, and in the authorization usage environment, the protected multimedia is properly played as normal, however once the resource is beyond the authorization environment, the protected resource will not be played correctly. Experiments showed our proposed partial encryption approach was efficient with real-time quality of service, which was suitable for online multimedia streaming in content delivery network.
