ABSTRACT: This is a methodological study of innovative technology developed which aims to build up nursing care protocol to the patient in the pre and postoperative bariatric surgery. The proposed model of care was based on the General Theory Orem Self-Care and organized from the requirements of self-care (universal, developmental and health deviation). Within each requirement, it is presented nursing diagnoses, expected outcomes and nursing interventions that were identified in a survey conducted with 31 clients suffering from morbid obesity, assisted by the Gastroenterology Outpatient Clinic of a university hospital in the period from April to June 2009. The development of the protocol is considered an important resource both to organize the guidelines provided by nurses to the bariatric patient, aiming their self-care, and to provide subsidies to systematize nursing care to be provided.

ABSTRACT: Concepts are terms referring to phenomena that occur in nature or in thought, which are essential in developing research, as well as in the construction of theories. To fulfill this role in the construction of scientific knowledge, it is appropriate for them to be reviewed periodically, aiming mainly at its improvement. Despite the existence of different models of conceptual analysis, this methodology, in general, has not been well understood by nursing, especially in our reality. Therefore, in this article, of reflection, we describe some methodological considerations, including a practical approach on the methods proposed by Walker and Avant, Rodgers and Schwartz-Barcott and Kim, in order to give nurses greater understanding of this process.

ABSTRACT: Background: The lack of standardization in the nursing special language has been identified as one of the main problems to overcome so that the profession can be recognized as a science. The emphasis on addressing these concerns led to the development of nursing terminologies that often do not reflect the local nursing practices, and this fact motivated the identification of professional nursing terms in a teaching hospital. Objective: To build, based on the ICNP® Seven Axes Model, a bank of terms of the nursing special language for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a teaching hospital, by using the terms found in the nursing records of this unit. Methodology: Descriptive research developed with the goal of contributing to the systematization of nursing care at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a teaching hospital. The steps followed in this research were: identification and evaluation of specialized documents; cross mapping of the identified terms with the ICNP® Version 1.0 terms; establishment of databases domain trees; development of definitions for terms not included in ICNP®, validation of the terms and definitions included in the database. Results: The results show that the 596 terms and definitions validated will enable the building of a bank of terms of the nursing special language for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, containing 226 terms that are included and 374 terms that are not included in ICNP® Version 1.0. Conclusion: It is expected that this database will become a source for the development of ICNP® Catalogues, including sets of diagnostic statements, nursing results and interventions, which can be used to implement the systematization of nursing care in the unit in question.

ABSTRACT: Problem: In healthcare services, it is the responsibility of the nursing staff to administer drugs. With the growing advances in new drug availability within the pharmaceutical industry, medicative practices have become complex, which contributes to the error rate. Objective: The objective of this article is to investigate, in online nursing journals, scientific publications involving errors in medication administration. Method: It is a bibliographical study that sampled eighteen articles from five nursing journals available in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) database for the period of 2000 and 2008. Results: The data was collected in May 2009 and analyzed using a content analysis technique. The guideline category was errors in the medication administration and three subcategories: types, causes and consequences; nursing professionals' behaviors, conduct and feelings; prevention proposals. It was seen that, quantitatively, the largest number of publications corresponded to the third subcategory, which denotes the authors' concern with the subject. Conclusion: The articles analyzed are directly related to nursing aid practices in the context of drug administration, with emphasis on error occurrence. The study's empiric material identified the types, causes and consequences of errors, as well as the conduct, behaviors and feelings of the nursing professionals, and preventive measures related to the problem.
