    ABSTRACT: To study the alkaloid constituents of the hairy roots of Ipomoea batatas Lam. Chromatographic methods were used for isolation and purification. The structure was elucidated on the basis of spectral data. An alkaloid was isolated from the hairy roots of Ipomoea batatas. The compound is a novel indole-type alkaloid, which is named as ipomine A.
