ABSTRACT: We analyzed 211 consecutive plasma B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) measurements in 59 pediatric heart transplant patients along with echocardiographic and right ventricular endomyocardial biopsy samples. Patients with a biopsy specimen negative for rejection had significantly lower BNP levels than those patients with a biopsy positive (p </=0.04) for rejection. BNP significantly decreased with treatment (p </=0.007). BNP levels in the first year after heart transplantation in all patients were significantly greater than BNP levels after the first year in all patients (p <0.001).

ABSTRACT: We reviewed records on patients who underwent hemi-Fontan and Fontan procedures over a 13-year period at a single institution to examine the incidence and outcome of stroke and to attempt to identify risk factors for stroke. A history of pulmonary artery banding was associated with an increased risk of stroke.

ABSTRACT: An aorta-to-right atrial fistula developed within 3 months after closure of an atrial septal defect using the Amplatzer septal occluder. Surgical correction was required. The cause of this complication appears to be erosion into the aorta by the right atrial disk.
