Article: Diffraction-compensated free-space WDM add-drop module with thin-film filters

ABSTRACT: A novel wavelength-division-multiplexing add-drop module is proposed using free-space cascaded thin-film filters. The athermal design of the filters creates a natural curvature that is shown to compensate for diffraction and optical misalignment. Conference Proceeding: Diffraction-compensated free-space wavelength add/drop module with thin-film filters

ABSTRACT: We have shown that diffraction compensation can be achieved in a free-space packaging of thin-film filters by utilizing the filter curvature that is a natural consequence of the athermal design of the filters. The method also reduces the sensitivity of the optical alignment. This method can be utilized in the design of wavelength add/drop modules for small package size, high reliability, and low cost.Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibit, 2002.
