Differentiation of CD8 T cells in response to acute and chronic viral infections: implications for HIV vaccine development.
ABSTRACT Successful HIV vaccine strategies will likely require the induction of robust cellular immune responses, in addition to strong humoral responses. Unfortunately, there is no clear molecular definition of an effective HIV-specific CD8 T cell response. In this review, we discuss the differentiation of CD8 T cells in response to acute and chronic viral infections. We then apply concepts derived from these studies to predict the desirable characteristics of HIV-specific CD8 T cell memory.

ABSTRACT: We have previously designed a method to construct viable recombinant Yellow Fever (YF) 17D viruses expressing heterologous polypeptides including part of the Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) Gag protein. However, the expressed region, encompassing amino acid residues from 45 to 269, was genetically unstable. In this study, we improved the genetic stability of this recombinant YF 17D virus by introducing mutations in the IRES element localized at the 5' end of the SIV gag gene. The new stable recombinant virus elicited adaptive immune responses similar to those induced by the original recombinant virus. It is, therefore, possible to increase recombinant stability by removing functional motifs from the insert that may have deleterious effects on recombinant YF viral fitness.Virology 03/2014; s 452–453:202–211. ABSTRACT: This paper describes the spectral image measurement of the agricultural products based on the near infrared diffuse reflectance. Spectral image was obtained by a developed measuring system using the model samples and the real apple samples. The correlation among the near infrared images and the chemical or the taste preferences has been studied. This image measurement could offer a new image information server to monitor the growth of agricultural products on the fields.
