The role of botulinum toxin type a in the radiation fibrosis syndrome: A preliminary report
ABSTRACT To describe the use of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) in radiation fibrosis syndrome (RFS).
Retrospective case series.
A large tertiary care cancer center.
Twenty-three consecutive patients treated for sequelae of RFS with BTX-A.
A description of the components of RFS thought to benefit from BTX-A injections and the patient's self-report of benefit from those injections.
The sequelae of RFS for which BTX-A injection was thought to be indicated include radiation-induced cervical dystonia in 18 (78%), trigeminal nerve or cervical plexus neuralgia in 10 (43%), trismus in 7 (30%), migraine in 3 (13%), and thoracic pain in 1 (4%) patient. Most (87%) patients self-reported benefit from the injections.
Initial clinical experience with the use of BTX-A as adjunctive treatment for select neuromuscular and musculoskeletal complications of RFS in a variety of cancer patients has been encouraging. Well-designed prospective studies are needed to clarify the potential beneficial role of BTX-A in specific sequelae of RFS.

ABSTRACT: We provide further tests and illustrations of the complete active space based state specific multireference Møller–Plesset perturbation theory (SS-MRMPPT) which opens the way for the treatment of dynamic correlations in situations containing significant static correlations also in an accurate, size- extensive and intruder free manner enjoying at the same time a very favorable computational cost. We have investigated various interesting and computationally challenging systems [H2O, H2O+, BeC, MgC, CO+, Be3, benzene, trimethylenemethane and 1,2,3-tridehydrobenzene] in either their ground, or excited/ionized states. It is found that SS-MRMPPT calculations provide very encouraging results which can be meaningfully compared with other state-of-the-art theoretical estimates. Present results convincingly indicate that the SS-MRMPPT method is not only successful in portraying situations that warrant MR description but also performs acceptably good in cases where a naive single-reference method is enough which reinforces the claim that the SS-MRMPPT is a very useful and flexible ab initio method.Chemical Physics 06/2012; DOI:10.1016/j.chemphys.2011.04.011 · 2.03 Impact Factor

ABSTRACT: Partial discharge (PD) can indicate defects in HV XLPE cable accessories. A new land of split-core PD sensor is designed that can be easy installed on-site and used safely, and has a bandwidth from 3 MHz to 60 MHz. A model of a cable accessory was made and some typical PD phenomena in this accessory were simulated, such as sliding discharge, floating discharge and cavity discharge. PD tests were made to find the features of the defects. The data from the tests were analyzed and the spectra of different types of PD were plotted using statistical parameters to reveal the feature of the different patterns of PD. The split-core PD sensor has been used on-site after sample testing in the laboratory.
