ABSTRACT The molecular geometry, the normal mode frequencies and corresponding vibrational assignments, (1)H and (13)C NMR chemical shift values of 8-hydroxy-1-methylquinolinium iodide monohydrate [(C(10)H(10)NO)(+)I(-)H(2)O] in the ground state were performed by HF and B3LYP levels of theory using the LanL2DZ basis set. The optimized bond lengths and bond angles are in good agreement with the X-ray data. The vibrational spectra of the title compound which is calculated by HF and DFT methods, reproduces vibrational wave numbers and intensities with an accuracy which allows reliable vibrational assignments. The title compound [(C(10)H(10)NO)(+)I(-)H(2)O] have been studied theoretically in the 4, 000-200 cm(-1) region and the assignment of all the observed bands were made. The analysis of the infrared spectra indicates that there are some structure-spectra correlations. These methods are proposed as a tool to be applied in the structural characterization of 8-hydroxy-1-methylquinolinium iodide monohydrate [(C(10)H(10)NO)(+)I(-)H(2)O], and thus providing useful support in the interpretation of experimental NMR data.

ABSTRACT: FT-IR spectrum of quinoline-2-carbaldehyde benzoyl hydrazone (HQb··H2O) was recorded and analyzed. The synthesis and crystal structure data are also described. The vibrational wavenumbers were examined theoretically using the Gaussian03 package of programs using HF/6-31G(d) and B3LYP/6-31G(d) levels of theory. The data obtained from vibrational wavenumber calculations are used to assign vibrational bands obtained in infrared spectroscopy of the studied molecule. The first hyperpolarizability, infrared intensities and Raman activities are reported. The calculated first hyperpolarizability is comparable with the reported values of similar derivatives and is an attractive object for future studies of non-linear optics. The geometrical parameters of the title compound obtained from XRD studies are in agreement with the calculated values. The changes in the CN bond lengths suggest an extended π-electron delocalization over quinoline and hydrazone moieties which is responsible for the non-linearity of the molecule.

ABSTRACT: In this paper, quantum chemistry calculations of geometric parameters, harmonic vibrational wavenumbers, molecular frontier orbital energies (HOMO and LUMO) and the electronic properties of bis(8-oxy-1-methylquinolinium) hydroiodide ([(C(10)H(9)NO)(2)H(+)]·I(-)) have been performed by using Gaussian 09 program. The structural and spectroscopic data of the molecule in the ground state have been calculated by using Hartree-Fock (HF) and density functional method (DFT/B3LYP) with the LanL2DZ basis set. For the spectra predicted, a potential energy distribution (PED) is calculated. The (1)H and (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts values of bis(8-oxy-1-methylquinolinium) hydroiodide molecule have been calculated by the gage including atomic orbital (GIAO) method. Furthermore, molecular electrostatic potential maps (MEP), Mulliken charges and the natural bonding orbital (NBO) analysis of the compound have been calculated by the HF and B3LYP/Lanl2DZ methods.

ABSTRACT: Quantum chemical calculations on the geometric parameters, harmonic vibrational wavenumbers and (1)H and (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts values of 4-(methoxymethyl)-6-methyl-5-nitro-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitrile [C9H9N3O4] molecule in ground state were performed using the ab initio HF and density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP) methods with 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. The results of optimized molecular structure were presented and compared with X-ray diffraction results. The theoretical vibrational frequencies and (1)H and (13)C NMR chemical shifts values were compared with experimental values of the investigated molecule. The observed and calculated values were found to be in good agreement. Since the title compound contains different electron-donor and -acceptor groups as well as lone pair electrons, and multiple bonds, the effects of these groups on the structural and electronic properties are found out. In addition, conformational, natural bond orbital (NBO), nonlinear optical (NLO) analysis, frontier molecular orbital energies, molecular surfaces, Mulliken charges and atomic polar tensor based charges were investigated using HF and DFT methods.
