ABSTRACT The treatment of ventricular arrhythmias and the prevention of sudden cardiac death should be focused on the optimal therapy of primary cardiac disease. Antiarrhythmic drugs and non-pharmacological therapies (radiofrequency ablation, surgery, cardiac pacing, cardioversion and defibrillation) play also an important role. Despite the recognition that the goal should be to prevent the arrhythmia, implanted cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) became the major form of therapy used.
