Root Development of Immature Third Molars Transplanted to Surgically Created Sockets
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to compare root development after transplantation of teeth into surgically created sockets or into fresh extraction sites.
The sample consisted of 62 patients with a total of 64 transplanted immature third molars. All transplants were at root development stages 3 to 4. In 22 cases, a new socket was created by means of burs. Forty-two teeth transplanted into a fresh extraction site served as controls. Postoperative root development was determined on intraoral radiographs taken immediately after transplantation and at the final follow-up. For all transplants, extraoral storage time and number of trials were recorded during transplantation.
No significant intergroup differences were observed at root development stage 3. In contrast, at root development stage 4 transplantations to surgically created sockets showed a significantly lower final root length (P = .025) and root length increment (P = .038) than transplants in the control group. In addition, a significant correlation was determined in the prepared socket group at developmental stage 4 between root length increment and extraoral storage time (r = -0.910, r(2) = 0.828, P < .001) or number of trials in the recipient socket (r = -0.775, r(2) = 0.601, P < .001).
Teeth at advanced developmental stages transplanted to surgically created sockets show an impaired postoperative root development. A possible explanation might be damage of Hertwig's epithelial root sheath during the transplantation procedure.

ABSTRACT: A breadboard 250 kW external integral starter/generator (EIS/G) has been developed. This system uses a switched reluctance machine and two 125 kW inverter/converter units (ICUs) to develop two separate and independent 270 Vdc output power busses. This paper describes the results of research to develop a 125 kW MCT based ICU for the breadboard EIS/G system. It reviews previous results and presents new results for an upgraded 125 kW ICU design employing second generation MCT modules. These second generation MCT modules were developed under the Power Electronics Building Block (PEBB) program. ABSTRACT: To assess the alveolar bone formation after autogenous tooth transplantation by conventional radiographic method and digital subtraction radiography. This retrospective study was done in 54 of 136 patients who received the third molar tooth transplantation and attended the first week, as well as the 1-, 3-, 6-, 9-, and 12-month follow-up. Postoperative periapical radiographs were subsequently evaluated by direct visual interpretation and digital subtraction radiography. The data were analyzed by using McNemar test and 1-way repeated-measure analysis of variance as well as Bonferroni multiple comparison. Fifty-four cases of transplantation were studied. Most of them had normal wound healing. The direct radiographic interpretation and digital subtraction radiography found significant alveolar bone formation in the first-and the third-month follow-ups (P < .05). Lamina dura appeared in the third month and kept increasing until the sixth month. Postoperative radiographs revealed the distinctive bone formation up to the third month. ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to analyse the current situation in dental autotransplantations within the different therapeutic alternatives that the Dentist has available to replace a tooth in the dental arcade. For some authors this is an option headed for failure, whereas for others, it is an alternative to keep in mind. In this study we analyse the factors related to the predictability of the technique, based on an analysis of research work published in the scientific literature up to date. We also present two clinical cases performed by our team and their subsequent evaluation. In spite of the satisfactory results seen when reviewing the existing literature, we cannot say that dental autotransplantation is currently the technique of choice when a tooth is lost, given the predictability of osteointegrated implants.Medicina oral, patologia oral y cirugia bucal 07/2011; 16(7):e948-52.
