ABSTRACT The syntheses, crystal structures and magnetic properties are described for two novel 2D heterometallic Cu(II)-Sr(II) coordination polymers {Sr(H(2)O)(6)[(Im)(4)Cu(4)(pdc)(4)Sr(H(2)O)(4)]·6H(2)O}(n) (1) and [Cu(2)(H(2)O)(2)(pdc)(2)Sr(H(2)O)(3)](n) (2) (H(3)pdc = 3,5-pyrazoledicarboxylic acid; Im = imidazole). The 1 : 1 : 1 : 5 reaction of SrCl(2)·6H(2)O, Cu(NO(3))(2)·3H(2)O, H(3)pdc and imidazole in H(2)O-EtOH at 120 °C under autogenous pressure gave 1. Complex 2 was obtained from the 1 : 1 : 1 H(3)pdc/Sr(OH)(2)·8H(2)O/Cu(NO(3))(2)·3H(2)O reaction mixture in H(2)O-EtOH under solvothermal conditions. Complex 1 can be described as a 2D grid-shaped network with the four Cu(II) ions in a saddle-like conformation. In complex 2, Sr(II) ions link metalloligands [Cu(2)(pdc)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2-) to generate a 2D layer framework. Variable-temperature solid-state dc magnetic susceptibility studies have been performed in the temperature range 2.0-300 K for complexes 1 and 2. Antiferromagnetic Cu(II)···Cu(II) exchange interactions were found for both 1 and 2.

ABSTRACT: Three new heterometallic coordination polymers formulated as [Ca(CuL)(H2O)5]•H2O (1), [Sr(CuL)(H2O)2] (2), and [Ba(CuL)(H2O)4] (3) have been obtained by reaction of rigid metalloligand [CuL]2- (H4L=N-5-sulfosalicylideneglycylglycine) with the corresponding alkaline earth metal cations M2+ (M= Ca, Sr or Ba). Their crystal structures are determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by elemental analyses and IR spectra. The coordination preferences of the alkaline earth metal cations are found to have pronounced effects on the structural topologies. Complex 1 has a distorted ladder-like one-dimensional (1D) structure; In complex 2, Sr(II) ions link metalloligands [CuL]2- via the sulfonate and carbonyl oxygen atoms to generate a three-dimensional (3D) framework. Complex 3 is arranged in a 3D framework formed by the linkage of copper(II) and barium (II) via carboxylate and sulfonate bridges. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility studies indicate that all complexes exhibit weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the Cu(II) paramagnetic centers.

ABSTRACT: Nine new mononuclear and polynuclear Cu(ii) complexes [Cu(H2L(2))Cl]Cl·3H2O (), [Cu(H2L(3))Cl]Cl·H2O (), [Cu(H2L(4))Cl]Cl·2.5H2O (), [Cu3(μ(3)-L(1))2(H2O)3](ClO4)2·H2O (), [Cu4(μ-HL(1))4](ClO4)8·CH3OH·5H2O (), [Cu2(HL(3))2](ClO4)2·2H2O (), [Cu2(μ-HL(3))2](ClO4)2·H2O (), [Cu2(μ-HL(3))(L(3))Cu(teta)](ClO4)3·2H2O () and [Cu2(H2L(3))2(ox)](ClO4)2·2H2O·2MeOH () containing [5-(2-pyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole-3-yl]alkanes (H2L(n), n = 1-4) in combination with other ligands, such as chlorido, aqua, triethylenetetramine (teta) and/or oxalato (ox(2-)), were synthesized and characterized by various techniques such as elemental analysis, FTIR, NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. X-ray structures of H2L(3) and H2L(4) as well as complexes were determined. The X-ray structures revealed that relatively small composition and structural changes in the H2L(n) ligands have a substantial impact on the coordination geometries of the complexes themselves as well as on their resulting magnetic properties. It has been found that the geometries of the complexes vary from square-pyramidal to trigonal-bipyramidal (with τ ranging from 0.00 to 0.96) and, moreover, that the trigonal bipyramidal geometry becomes more preferable with the increase in the length of the polymethylene chain within the corresponding H2L(n) ligand. The magnetic properties of the polynuclear compounds , , , and were analysed using the spin Hamiltonian formalism, which revealed the presence of antiferromagnetic exchange in the polynuclear systems mediated by the title ligands. The significant effect of the geometric parameters on the CuCu exchange interactions in the polynuclear complexes is discussed.

ABSTRACT: Five heterometallic coordination polymers based on pyridine 2,3-dicarboxylic acid (H(2)pydc), namely [MSr(pydc)(2)(H2O)(n) (M = Co (1), Ni (2)), [MSr2(pydc)(3)(H2O)(4)](n)center dot 2nH(2)O (M = Ni (3), Zn (4)) and [CuSr(pydc)(2)(H2O)(3)](n)center dot 2nH(2)O (5), have been synthesized via rationally choosing the appropriate metal salts and dexterously adjusting the pH values of the reaction system. X-ray crystallographic analyses reveal that the polymers display three varieties of 3-D framework structures. The magnetic properties of complexes 1 and 2 were investigated, and antiferromagnetic M-II center dot center dot center dot M-II interactions were found for both complexes.
