ABSTRACT The syntheses, crystal structures and magnetic properties are described for two novel 2D heterometallic Cu(II)-Sr(II) coordination polymers {Sr(H(2)O)(6)[(Im)(4)Cu(4)(pdc)(4)Sr(H(2)O)(4)]·6H(2)O}(n) (1) and [Cu(2)(H(2)O)(2)(pdc)(2)Sr(H(2)O)(3)](n) (2) (H(3)pdc = 3,5-pyrazoledicarboxylic acid; Im = imidazole). The 1 : 1 : 1 : 5 reaction of SrCl(2)·6H(2)O, Cu(NO(3))(2)·3H(2)O, H(3)pdc and imidazole in H(2)O-EtOH at 120 °C under autogenous pressure gave 1. Complex 2 was obtained from the 1 : 1 : 1 H(3)pdc/Sr(OH)(2)·8H(2)O/Cu(NO(3))(2)·3H(2)O reaction mixture in H(2)O-EtOH under solvothermal conditions. Complex 1 can be described as a 2D grid-shaped network with the four Cu(II) ions in a saddle-like conformation. In complex 2, Sr(II) ions link metalloligands [Cu(2)(pdc)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2-) to generate a 2D layer framework. Variable-temperature solid-state dc magnetic susceptibility studies have been performed in the temperature range 2.0-300 K for complexes 1 and 2. Antiferromagnetic Cu(II)···Cu(II) exchange interactions were found for both 1 and 2.

ABSTRACT: Two fascinating 3D entangled coordination polymers, [Ni5(pda)5(bpp)5]·12H2O (1) and [Cd2(pda)2(1,10′-phen)2]·4H2O (2) (pda = phenylenediacrylate dianion; bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane; 1,10′-phen = 1,10′-phenanthroline), have been successfully synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. In complex 1, two 44-sql nets interweave in parallel and give rise to a 2-fold interpenetrated layer (2D → 2D). In addition, each layer interlocks two other layers, one above and one below (2D → 3D). This results in an interesting 3D coordination polymer containing interpenetration and polycatenation at the same time. Complex 2 exhibits a 2D → 3D polythreaded framework based on 2D 44-sql motifs with side arms. If π–π interactions are taken into account, the resulting structure displays a 2-fold interpenetrated 3D α-Po network. Interestingly, if crystals of 2 are dissolved in water and left undisturbed for about two weeks at room temperature, its supramolecular isomer [Cd2(pda)2(1,10′-phen)2]·H2O (3) is formed. On the contrary, when yellow block crystals of 3 are treated under microwave conditions, colorless plate crystals of 2 reappear. This means that there exists a reversible transformation process between 2 and its isomer 3. Furthermore, the fluorescence properties of 2 have been studied.

ABSTRACT: Five new two-dimensional (2D) lanthanide–organic frameworks with formula [Ln(Hbtca)2(OAc)(H2O)]n (Ln = Sm 1, Eu 2, Gd 3, Tb 4, Er 5; H2btca = benzotriazole-5-carboxylic acid) have been synthesized by the solvothermal reactions of H2btca and corresponding lanthanide nitrate. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that these complexes are isostructural and each exhibits a 2D square-grid-type network constructed via Ln2(μ-CH3COO)2 dinuclear secondary building units (SBUs), in which Hbtca− anions adopt two different resonance structures. The 2D networks are further linked by hydrogen-bonding to form a three-dimensional supramolecular network. Compounds 2 and 4 exhibit strong luminescence emission in the visible region. Magnetic susceptibility of 3 reveals weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the Gd(III) ions. Furthermore, infrared (IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), elemental analyses (EA), and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) properties of these compounds are also investigated.

ABSTRACT: Three new heterometallic coordination polymers formulated as [Ca(CuL)(H2O)5]•H2O (1), [Sr(CuL)(H2O)2] (2), and [Ba(CuL)(H2O)4] (3) have been obtained by reaction of rigid metalloligand [CuL]2- (H4L=N-5-sulfosalicylideneglycylglycine) with the corresponding alkaline earth metal cations M2+ (M= Ca, Sr or Ba). Their crystal structures are determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by elemental analyses and IR spectra. The coordination preferences of the alkaline earth metal cations are found to have pronounced effects on the structural topologies. Complex 1 has a distorted ladder-like one-dimensional (1D) structure; In complex 2, Sr(II) ions link metalloligands [CuL]2- via the sulfonate and carbonyl oxygen atoms to generate a three-dimensional (3D) framework. Complex 3 is arranged in a 3D framework formed by the linkage of copper(II) and barium (II) via carboxylate and sulfonate bridges. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility studies indicate that all complexes exhibit weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the Cu(II) paramagnetic centers.
