THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING IN TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION AT THE FIRST YEAR STUDENT OF SMAN 1 KRAKSAAN PROBOLINGGO
ABSTRACT This study is conducted to describe the implementation, the problems, and the solutions of the problems proposed by the teacher in implementing cooperative learning (CL). In this study, descriptive research design was used to obtain the information related to the research problems. The subject of this study was first grade English teacher. The instrument used to collect the data was interview and observation. The result of the study showed that the teacher used cooperative learning method. In the implementation of cooperative learning, the teacher could not be implemented fully because he found some difficulties in following the procedures of CL. First, the teacher found difficulty in making the class into several groups, because the students tend to choose that own members that were suitable with them. In coping with this problem, the teacher explained to the students that by joining another group could find more knowledge and experiences. Second, the teacher found difficulty in making the students find the knowledge by themselves because they have less vocabulary mastery. To solve this problem, the teacher explains the new vocabulary and gave the question related to the topic. Third, the teacher got difficulty making the students understand the material well, because they were lack of vocabulary knowledge. In solving the problem, the teacher gave explanation about new vocabulary. The next, the teacher found difficulty about the material which he gave to the students to difficult for the students. In solving the problem, the teacher gave the simple material which was more interesting to the students. The last the teacher had the problem to motivate the introvert student who prefer to work alone. To solve the problem, the teacher paid special attention and gave an understanding that working in group was very important.
