ABSTRACT Experiments are underway to investigate the effects of cathode endcaps on electron current loss and efficiency in relativistic magnetrons. Experiments generate 180-300 MW microwave pulses at 1 GHz from MELBA-C electron beams with parameters: 400 keV, 6 kA, and 500 ns. Data show a four-fold reduction in endloss current with a single endcap. Double end caps are under experimentation.
