A simple and effective method to analyze field distribution incurved dielectric waveguides

ABSTRACT Field distributions of a curved dielectric waveguide with rectangular cross-section are investigated by a network method combined with a modified EDC approximation. It is shown that the field maximum tends to outwardly shift. Field profiles in the inner and outer space regions of the waveguide are also drawn. Results of numerical analysis show very good agreement with experimental results while the present approach is simpler and more convenient compared with those applying the WKB method
