ABSTRACT A new mobile multimedia broadcasting service using a geostationary satellite was launched on May 2005 in Korea. The Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (S-DMB) system provides high quality audio, video and data broadcasting services to handheld and mobile receivers. S-DMB is a personal digital media which can provide bidirectional and interactive services via the convergent platform of broadcasting and communication. At present, TU Media, the only S-DMB service provider in Korea, provides 15 TV channels, 19 audio channels, and 3 data channels. The number of subscribers is about 890,000 by Nov. 2006. Thousands of low power gap fillers (repeaters) have been installed in the shadowed or blocked reception areas in the metropolitan Seoul. This paper presents the system requirements, standards and specifications, architecture, and service status of S-DMB in Korea. Comparisons with other satellite broadcasting systems and the services are also presented. Link budget analysis on the direct path down-link (satellite to receivers) and relay path feeder link (gap fillers to receivers) are carried out in order to ensure the satisfactory QoS

ABSTRACT: In order to meet the updating strategy requirements in the bus systems by WIFI network, the optimized ant colony algorithm is proposed in the updating application of multimedia files in bus system. Firstly, the existing problems of the updating strategy are illustrated and the mathematical model of the updating strategy is established. Then the algorithm is constructed based on the ant colony system. Through the analysis of the feasible solution problem, the vehicle updating sequence which makes the multimedia files updated efficiently is achieved. The simulations on matlab are also carried out. Finally, it is demonstrated that the optimized ant colony algorithm is well applied in the updating strategy of multimedia files for the bus system.

ABSTRACT: In this paper, we propose an efficient cooperative diversity scheme for mobile satellite multimedia broadcasting services. The proposed scheme is a transmit diversity technique to adapt time varying channel conditions, and we do not need any channel quality information from the return link. In the proposed scheme, we utilize space-time block coding (STBC) and rate compatible turbo codes in order to realize the transmit diversity for the mobile satellite system with several repeaters. The satellite and several repeaters operate in unison to send the encoded signals, so that the receiver may realize diversity gain. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can provide highly improved performance.

ABSTRACT: Mobile Digital TV (MDTV), the hybrid of Digital Television (DTV) and mobile devices (such as mobile phones), has introduced a new way for people to watch DTV and has brought new opportunities for development in the DTV industry. Nowadays, the development of the next generation MDTV service has progressed in terms of both hardware layers and software, with interactive services becoming one of the future trends. However, current MDTV interactive service generation process relies too much on commercial solutions, resulting in most parts of the process being proprietary. In addition, this has increased the technical demands for developers and the cost of producing and maintaining MDTV services. In light of the aforementioned situation, this paper proposes an innovative MDTV service generation solution, which introduces a semi-automatic creation mechanism to facilitate a less technical and more efficient interactive service creation process. By employing open-standard technologies including XHTML and Java ME for the service presentation the proposed work benefits are twofold. Firstly it helps in reducing the technical demands of MDTV service production for service creators. Secondly it improves the inter-compatibility of the created service application amongst different MDTV standards. Initial test results indicate that the proposed solution allows for a faster and more effective MDTV interactive service generation.
