Motivación y actitudes hacia la carrera de profesor de educación primaria en estudiantes normalistas de primer ingreso

ABSTRACT A study was made of students' motivation in selecting the degree plan in elementary teaching, and their attitudes toward the degree. The study participants were two groups of new students working toward the degree under two different plans: Plan 84, with 140 students, and Plan 97, with 116 students. The students were asked to complete a questionnaire, to identify the type of motivation that determined their enrollment, and a semantic differential was used to examine their attitudes toward the degree. The results—analyzed by parametric sand nonparametric statistics, and Cohen's d to weigh the effect of the differences—indicate that almost one-half of the students selected the degree for extrinsic reasons; this percentage was higher in Plan 84. The students' attitude is positive, yet the differences are greater in Plan 97. The females and those who enrolled due to intrinsic motivation have a more positive attitude toward the degree.     ABSTRACT: Abstract: In this article I analyze two generations of female teachers in order to compare the way professional identity has transformed over time. The narration revolves around the metaphor called the mother-gardener, the basis of a model closely related to the origin of the female teaching profession�which is structured around the woman-mother-teacher relation. According to this logic, the discursive ruptures of the relation allow us to discover the contradictions and resistance to a stereotyped model of the female teaching profession. New generations face a complex identity since the original cultural model has lost its coherence over time. The construction of identity is no longer a social responsibility, but has become an individual process. En el presente artículo analizo dos generaciones de educadoras, con la finalidad de comparar la manera en que la identidad profesional se ha ido transformando al paso del tiempo; se recupera la narración en torno a la metáfora denominada madre- jardinera, debido a que alrededor de ésta se entretejió un modelo vinculado estrechamente con el origen de la profesión de las educadoras, la cual se ha estructurado a través de la relación mujer-madre-educadora. Desde esta lógica, las rupturas discursivas de dicha relación nos permiten encontrar las contradicciones y resistencias hacia un modelo estereotipado de la profesión referida. Las nuevas generaciones se enfrentan a una identidad compleja, en virtud de que al paso del tiempo ha dejado de ser coherente el modelo cultural primigenio, ya que la construcción de la identidad ha dejado de ser una responsabilidad social, para convertirse en un proceso individual.
