ABSTRACT The

$\beta^{{+}}_{}$
/EC decay of 189m, gPb has been studied at the ISOLDE facility using nuclear spectroscopy and in-source laser spectroscopy. A level scheme of 189Tl has been built from

coincidence relationships and information on the feeding of some excited levels of 189Tl provided by the hyperfine spectra obtained from laser ionization. The half-lives of both the 13/2+ and 3/2-189Pb isomers have been estimated to be T
1/2 = 50±3 s and T
1/2 = 39±8 s, respectively. Calculations have been performed for different oblate and prolate nuclear deformations using an axial-rotor coupled to one-quasiparticle model, a structure has been suggested for the low-lying levels of the 189Tl nucleus.

• ##### Article: Resonance laser ionization of atoms for nuclear physics
[Hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: The applications of the laser resonance ionization method in nuclear research are reviewed. Investigation of radioactive isotopes using resonance ionization techniques provides a valuable combination of high selectivity, efficiency and spectral resolution. The majority of radioactive ion beams produced at on-line isotope separator facilities profit from the selectivity and universal applicability of laser ion sources. Numerous ultra-sensitive and high-resolution techniques of laser spectroscopy based on resonance ionization of atoms have been developed for the study of rare and radioactive isotopes. A summary of ionization schemes applied to radioactive isotopes is given in table form.

ABSTRACT: The /EC decay of 185Tl was studied at the ISOLDE facility, the -rays belonging to 185Hg have been identified and a partial low-spin level scheme of 185Hg has been built. The decay of 185m+gHg was studied at the ISOCELE facility. Conversion electron lines of very low-energy transitions were observed for the first time. Electron data have been obtained for four transitions in 185Au and two transitions in 185Hg . From the analysis performed using an internal energy calibration procedure the energy location of the 185mHg has been determined to be keV. This value is consistent with that determined independently, keV, using 185m+gHg -decay data from literature. New particles emitted from 189m+gPb have been detected and their origins determined by in-source laser spectroscopy at the ISOLDE facility. - coincidence results have served to locate the isomeric state of 189Pb at keV. This latter value added to -decay data from literature have allowed the energy location of the isomeric states of 193Po and 197Rn at 95(7)keV and 194(12)keV, respectively. The nuclear structure of the isomeric and ground states in the nuclei of the three -emitter chains starting with 195m+g, 197m+g, 199m+gRn are discussed.

ABSTRACT: A detailed α-decay study of the neutron-deficient isotope 181Pb has been performed in the complete fusion reaction 40Ca+144Sm→184Pb* at the velocity filter SHIP (GSI, Darmstadt). In comparison with the literature, more precise data have been deduced for the Iπ=(9/2-) ground state in this nucleus, which is presumably based on the neutron νh9/2 spherical orbital. Improved α-decay data were also measured for 180Pb.
