The author based conclusions on his own research, but also professional experience, which is a result of his engagement in consultancy for tourist companies. The paper is divided into two main parts. First part is dedicated to critical review of possibilities of SWOT analysis’ use in the process of strategic planning according to literature. In the second part, the author presents his own concept of SWOT analysis, which is based on Delphi technique. Additionally, author’s concept considers an issue of particular circumstances in small tourist enterprises, which determine the application of SWOT analysis.

ABSTRACT: This article explores the often-used strategy tool known as the SWOT analysis. The history of this tool is explained as well as common uses. The results of a literature review indicate a clear lack of empirical research on the topic and what little research has appeared is reviewed for the purposes of understanding how to further support and develop this tool. An integrative process for conducting SWOT analyses is provided with recommendations for optimizing SWOT in HRD contexts. Common misuses and pitfalls are also discussed along with suggested research for adding robustness to this classic strategic tool.

ABSTRACT: Within the tourism industry there is a growing consensus on the need for research to investigate the economic, social and environmental impacts of tourism. However, existing research methods texts are based solely on either the business approach or the social science approach to tourism. They often fail to provide real world examples of how to plan, implement or analyse tourism related research. This book aims to address this divide by integrating theory with practice through the inclusion of specific tourism research case studies alongside research theory. It considers a wide range of research issues, approaches and techniques with contributions from both experienced and new researchers.

ABSTRACT: The SWOT (which is sometimes called TOWS) matrix is one of the most important tools for strategic planning especially in the stage of extracting strategies. While the use of SWOT is quite common and popular, it still continues to have certain structural problems. The most important of which are the lack of considering uncertain and two sided factors, lack of prioritization of the factors and strategies and too many extractable strategies. This paper attempts to solve some of the problems by following the fuzzy approach to the internal and external factors (in the form of fuzzy membership functions). The presented algorithm in this article prioritizes and extracts the most significant strategies based on the intensity of the effect.
