The splitting spinning which is designed to split a rotational disk blank into two flanges, is one of newly rising, green flexible forming technologies, and it can be widely applied to manufacture a whole pulley or wheel in fields of aerospace, automobile and train. The investigation of forming parameters influencing on splitting spinning force can provide the foundation for the choice of equipments, the design of dies and the determination of processing parameters. This paper aims at developing a reasonable formula between splitting spinning force and forming parameters by the principal stress method, and then the reliability of the formula is verified by the comparisons with experimental data. Meanwhile, both a reasonable method of calculating the three-dimensional projected areas and a more effective method of solving the average angle in the deformation zone are presented. Furthermore, based on the formula, the laws of initial thickness and initial diameter of workpiece, diameter and splitting angle of splitting roller and feed ratio of splitting spinning influencing on splitting spinning force are investigated. The achievements may serve as an important guide for the determination and optimization of forming parameters of splitting spinning.

ABSTRACT: Sheet metal with optimized cross-sections open up new possibilities, e.g. in lightweight design by minimizing weight without reducing product's strength or stiffness, in heat transfer performance and in economic usage of resources. Shape rolling processes are state-of-the-art for profiles with variable thickness in transverse direction. The challenge for a successful process is a homogeneous material flow in strip direction. Even if several shape rolling steps are used, geometric restrictions still exist. These restrictions can be reduced by applying a combination of bending and rolling processes. The basic principle as well as theoretical and experimental results will be discussed in this paper.

ABSTRACT: The forming characteristics of splitting spinning based on the behaviors of roller is one important key of improvement of materials forming limit and forming precision. In this paper, the relationship between continuous feed conditions and feed amount of roller is obtained by the static analysis of splitting spinning. Based on the numerical relationship, the forming characteristics of splitting spinning based on the behaviors of roller is studied, including geometric parameter, boundary condition and contact. According to the above analysis of forming characteristics, a 3D elastic–plastic FE model of splitting spinning is established using the dynamic explicit FE code ABAQUS/Explicit, and then the reliability is proved by comparisons with experimental data. Furthermore, the influence laws of forming parameters of splitting spinning on the quality and precision of flanges are investigated under different forming conditions. The results are as follows: (1) On the conditions of 20⩽α⩽45° and r0=1.5mm, deformed flanges satisfy high quality and high precision. (2) When feed rate 1.0

ABSTRACT: Magnesium alloy AZ31 shows excellent ductility and formability at elevated temperatures, and using hot splitting spinning it can be formed into a structural component subjected to impact loadings, such as, a wheel hub of aero undercarriage or kinds of light whole wheels. In this paper, based on the analysis of microstructures and deformation characteristics of magnesium alloy AZ31, a reasonable deformation temperature range is obtained during the thermoplastic forming process. Adopting a flow stress model of magnesium alloy AZ31 considering the dynamic recrystallization (DRX), a 3D elastic–plastic FE model of hot splitting spinning of magnesium alloy AZ31 is established based on the FEM software platform of ABAQUS/Explicit and a developed 3D-FE model of cold splitting spinning, and its reliability is validated. Furthermore, field distributions of deformed component, including temperature fields, stress fields and strain fields, and variations of different nodal temperatures are obtained. And the influencing laws of different initial temperatures of disk blank and different feed rates of splitting roller on forming quality of deformed flanges are investigated, consequently the optimal forming temperature is approximate 300°C and the optimal feed rate of splitting roller ranges from 1 to 3mm/s during the hot splitting spinning process of magnesium alloy AZ31. The results may help to understand the forming characteristics and optimum design of the hot splitting spinning process.
