ABSTRACT In thiswork,varioustechniquessuchasdifferentialscanningcalorimetry-thermo-
gravimetricanalysis(DSC-TGA),Fouriertransform infraredspectroscopy (FTIR),ultraviolet-
visible-near infrared(UV-vis-NIR), photoluminescence(PL),>as well aselectricalandsensor
techniques havebeenusedforthecharacterizationofindiumoxide(In2O3) nanoparticles.
Here,wealsoprovideinsightregardingtheoptical andelectricalcharacteristicsofIn2O3
nanostructures.Theimpactofhighlysensitive andfastrespondinggassensorsusingIn2O3
nanostructuresisalsodiscussed.Itisfoundthattheas-preparedIn2O3 powderisapuresingle
phase andisstableupto800 1C. Thesizeoftheparticlesisintherangeof12nmas
determinedbytransmissionelectronmicroscopy (TEM).Thebandgapwasfoundtovary
linearlywiththeannealingtemperature.Agoodsensitivityupto400ppmwasobtainedfor
ethanol andamechanismisproposed.
