High spin states in 129 Ba

ABSTRACT The high spin structure of the nucleus129Ba has been investigated using a18O induced reaction. The known bands could be followed up to a maximum spin (55/2) h. Some 56 states and 78 transitions could be placed in the level scheme. Band crossings were established in both positive and negative parity structures. They display features of strong polarization effects due to the alignment of h11/2 protons.

    ABSTRACT: Collective excitations have for the first time been identified in 121Ba using the particle-gammagamma coincidence technique in the 19F + 106Cd reaction at 95 MeV. Two main rotational bands, both of DeltaI = 1 character, have been observed in this nucleus: A positive-parity band without signature splitting based on the 5/2+ ground state and a level structure with signature splitting assigned as the h11/2 neutron-hole band. It is proposed that this negative-parity band is based on the 5/2- state generated from the 5/2- [532] orbital. The upbends observed in these band structures originate from the alignment of two h11/2 quasiprotons.     ABSTRACT: The E2 hindrance factors of high spin isomers involving (h11/2)2 excitations in the N ˜ 76 and Z ˜ 76 regions of transitional and deformed nuclei are compared. Using the correlation with the product of the valence nucléon numbers NpNn, a systematic picture of the weakly K-forbidden decays is presented.
