ABSTRACT Akumulasi menegak unsur-unsur Zn, U, Pb dan Th diukur pada teras sedimen sedalam 150 cm yang diperolehi di hutan paya bakau Bebar, Pahang, Malaysia. Secara keseluruhanya, kepekatan elemen kajian didapati menunjukkan sedikit peningkatan di permukaan dan menurun mengikut kedalaman. Nilai faktor pengkayaan (EF) yang dikira bagi menentukan pengaruh pencemaran mendapati semua logam mempunyai sumber dominan secara semulajadi dengan nilai EFnya yang menghampiri 1. Sementara itu kaedah kepekatan menegak 230Th digunakan bagi menentukan kadar pemendapan di mana purata pemendapan sebanyak 0.52 cm thn-1 adalah diperolehi.

The accumulation of elements Zn, U, Pb and Th with respect to depth were determined in a 150 cm sediment core obtained from the mangrove forests of Bebar, Pahang, Malaysia. Generally, all elements have higher concentration at the surface layer and decrease with depth. In order to access the influence of heavy metals pollution more precisely. enrichment factors (EF) were calculated, whereby all studied elements are considered to be predominantly terrigenous in origin with an EF values closer to 1. The sediment accretion rate in this study was determined using the 230Th vertical profile method and average sedimentation rate of about 0.52 cmyr-1 was obtained.
