ABSTRACT In an overview of the disciplinary and professional field of Psychology,
the two positions, one that stands up for the unification of Psychology,
and the other that assumes that its specialization is an inevitable outcome
are critically analyzed. Then, an alternative position related to the unity of psychology, based on the professional ethics is proposed. It is aimed at
narrowing the distance between both positions. The implications of this point
of view are discussed, and the relevance of this discipline in the social and
community field is highlighted.

ABSTRACT: The International Transpersonal Association (ITA) was formed in 1978 for the purposesof promoting education and research in transpersonal subjects, as well as sponsoring global conferences for the international transpersonal community. The association was subsequently dissolved in 2004, but is now in the process of being reactivated and revitalized. As background for this development, this paper reviews the history of ITA including its international conferences and noteworthy presenters, the organization’s definition, strategies, and specific goals, and details of its contemporary revival.

ABSTRACT: In this chapter, the authors examine the unity of psychology as embodied in the evolution of the American Psychological Association (APA) as an association of psychologists. To capture this evolution, we will examine the forces that have threatened the status of psychology as a coherent discipline and profession--conceptual challenges to unity, science-practice divergence, and organizational challenges. Throughout, we will describe the role that the APA has played in each of these arenas, focusing on ways that its activities have promoted unity. We will conclude by examining how the APA's current role as the umbrella organization for psychology serves to encourage unity now, and will continue to do so into the future.
